The physical flight experience is no different.
Most fares that book into Y class can be changed without penalty (although service fees might apply).Oh I knew that... I was just wondering what the "administrative" differences are I guess.
They tie back to the fare purchased originally. Different fares end up in different fare buckets.
For a pure domestic itinerary, have a look at http://www.qantas.com.au/agents/dyn/qf/info/DomRetlCC0709.pdf
Generally the main differences are things like cost of points to upgrade a fare to Business (and if it's possible), Frequent Flyer points earning, how easy it is to change to other flights etc.
The physical flight experience is no different.

FlexiSavers (internationally) book in to (H) class.
I always assumed that Y was MUCH more expensive than H - ie Premium Econ is cheaper than a real "Y" fare. Is this correct?
Tks for that.
Would you be able to advise what a similar pure "Y" fare for:
MEL-LAX
or
MEL-SAN (via LAX)
is for July so as to have a comparison.
