QANTAS Economy Class Differences

Just wondering what the differences are between the codes of economy class with QANTAS. Never really took much notice of it by noticed my next week flights have me in Y and L for different legs.

They tie back to the fare purchased originally. Different fares end up in different fare buckets.

Generally the main differences are things like cost of points to upgrade a fare to Business (and if it's possible), Frequent Flyer points earning, how easy it is to change to other flights etc.

Most fares that book into Y class can be changed without penalty (although service fees might apply).

L class is more restricted, but generally less expensive than Y class.

There's an economy hierarchy with QF. Y is the most flexible and E the least:

flexisaver online are classed as discount Y for SC's whereas on this doc they asre classed as full Y. - Why is that?

OK thnxs serfty, Y Int can only earn Full Y SC's.

I find there is only a small price differnce between Flexisaver and a Y fare, however often have to through the service centre - for Int flights.

I always assumed that Y was MUCH more expensive than H - ie Premium Econ is cheaper than a real "Y" fare. Is this correct?

Depends on the route. On some routes there are some v good Y fares and they are cheaper than premium economy

e.g. SYD-SIN in July r/t YKFF is $1898 plus taxes and fines vs $2464 plus taxes for PE

MEL-SAN (via LAX)

is for July so as to have a comparison.

SYD-LAX , for example, cheapest Y fare listed is $7362 which is more expensive than the lowest I business class fare
