I was wondering what would be the cheapest (APPROX) A380 or B747 flight from Melbourne. It doesn't have to be direct it can be via Sydney and it doesn't matter if it is on the way there or back?

Daily Emirates Sydney-Auckland runs on A380 if you are interested. Sometimes they have real good specials.

Also AirNZ Melbourne-Auckland is also B747 if my memory serves me correctly.

Well if you fly on 05 Aug QF436 MEL-SYD and then QF31 SYD-SIN you will get the A380 and then return on 12 Aug QF10 you will get the 744.

Total cost $951 plus CC fees.

I am sure there are lot more examples out there for you to choose from.

Nope just directs SYD - CHC or AKL although AKL is the only A380
You could find a fare Mel AKL and AKL Syd as two one way or mutli trip then get a seperate one way back to Mel

If you explain more about what and why, we may be able to help more

I just want to fly on an A380 or B747 for about $500 per person return? I don't care where to, just as long I depart and arrive back into Melbourne. I know it very low but just wondering.

In theory, yes. Emirates SYD-AKL on A380 is currently $470.46 return. You just need to fly Tiger MEL-SYD on their REALLY CHEAP ticket!

Is it some kind of challenge between you and your friend?!

Yes I was thinking about the SYD-AKL A380 flight, But it leaves at 7:25 and thats to early to travel from Melbourne, If fact the first flight to Sydney is 6:00 so thats out. And the way back arrives into SYD at 20:10 and the last flight out of Sydney is around 22:00 is that to little time?

Cheapest would likely be to tale EK MEL-AKL on the 777 or A345 (depending on the day) for around $247, then return on EK AKL-SYD on A380 for NZ$190, leaving about $100 for a one way SYD-MEL on whatever airline you like to fit your $500 target and a ride in an A380. This could be done in a day.

Yes, But the time? It arrives into SYD at 20:10, How long would you say customs is at Sydney?

On the random date I checked (4th August), EK413 is scheduled to arrive into SYD at 7:25pm. With no luggage you should be through immigration and customs pretty smartly at that time of the day. If you use Qantas for the domestic return you could use the QF bus back to the domestic terminal to make QF497 departing at 10:10pm. You could also make JQ627 departing at 9:50pm or probably even DJ894 departing at 9:15pm.

So a long day but achievable.

Also AirNZ Melbourne-Auckland is also B747 if my memory serves me correctly.

Yes they do, but only at random times...

The next MEL-AKL service on a B747 (which I can find) is on Saturday the 4th of September, NZ124.

You would need to O'night in AKL or find another carrier if O'Night is not an option as there are no later AirNZ flights for Mel leaving after NZ124 arrives...

On the bright side, flying NZ124 (B747) to AKL, and NZ123 (B777) back the next morning only costs AU$377

Edit: They also seem to be running the B747's on Sat 11th September and Sat 18th September...

AirNZ's 747 schedule is ad-hoc. Search here: http://airnewzealand.innosked.com/default.aspx?countrycode=NZ&language=EN

(Mouse-over the

flight number to see the operating equipment)

Mainly the morning inbound from AKL and late morning back to AKL. Also, more often than not it's operated by a 772.

I had a 772 booking MEL-AKL for September, but this was changed to a 774 some months ago. It may very well change back before then.

Finally AirNZ intend to retire all their 744 over the next year or three ...

Can someone please post Air New Zealand's 747 schedule to Melbourne for the next 6 months?

The only other one I can find runs on Tuesday the 9th of November...
Again, it's not guarenteed... All airlines reserve the right to change operating equipment, so you may very well find that your flight is actually on a B777 \ B767 \ A320 without much notice (and I know AirNZ does, as it's happened to me on an AirNZ service).

For what it's worth, QF also run B747's to AKL very infrequently... The last one I know of was on the 17th Feb QF15 BNE-AKL (I was on it :D) ... But again it's very infrequent.

I miss the days when QF25 was on a 747 - especially the small window during which it was a 744.
