Cheap Hotel in Singapore

Does anyone know a cheap hotel in singapore , having to wait 2 days after a conference to catch a cruise boat .

Try any of the Hotel 81 or Fragrance hotel chains. Depending on the time of the year they are ~AUD50/night.

How cheap are you after? I've found The Carlton to be a good balance of price/location/value most of the time. Although lately their prices have been a bit steeper than they used to be.

the Ibis on Bencoolen is reasonably priced and quite comfortable. Not far to a train station either.

I would also choose Ibis... Went there in their opening week, and was a very nice and reasonable hotel.... Of course not 5 star, but still nice...

Another vote for this hotel. Stayed here in January and quite enjoyed it. Close to everything and not expensive.

+1 for the IBIS. But it is only great value around the $S150 mark (or less). Closer to $S200 and places like Holiday Inn start getting more attractive.

The Ibis is a place where I'd take a GF (or partner), and not be concerned about her complaining about the place. Some other cheap hotels wouldn't meet that criteria.

True but then the definiton of "cheap hotel" is not the same for all. How much is cheap?

For some people AUD300 is cheap, others feel AUD150-200 is cheap. For me a "cheap hotel" is <AUD100....

Length of stay also determines what defines cheap, there is a big difference between a bed for the night and a couple of days where you need a base to keep the bags etc! With Singapore the date can also make a big difference when it comes to rates, more so than many other places.

The definition of cheap also will change depending on the city For Singapore the Ibis is generally reasonably cheap, although as others have noted the price does float upwards at times.

Personally I feel those Hotel 81 / Fragrance hotels pretty poor, although I have only tried them a couple of times... they are definitely very cheap though.

The problem with a cheap hotel in SIN is that everything else is so expensive!

Robinson Quay Hotel - Asia Rooms or Agoda usually have some good rates, close to Clarkes Quay

Novotel Batan Island (Indonesia), <$100 per night usually, $25 ferry ride - bee's knees if you dont want to spend too much in SIN

There are some good hotels in JB as well that are <$100 and you are in 4.5 - 5* hotels, taxi from SIN is cheap, again Asia Rooms or Agoda usually have some good rates

For a little bit of character (without quite getting the full character of Geylang), the Parkroyal on Kitchener, at the edge of Little India, often has rates circa $110 SGD. Right next to the MRT, huge array of Indian (and other local) restaurants nearby as well as Mustafas, the (in)famous 24hr dept store right at the back of the hotel.

I agree with you but one also needs to determine the purpose of the hotel room. Do you have someone else with you? Are you going to work there? Are you likely to be entertaining friends or business colleagues?

I pay 700 baht (~AUD24) for a hotel room in Pattaya. It is clean, has a huge bed, a bar fridge (including mini bar) to store my drinks, a TV with cable channels from all over the world, a DVD player, a huge closet & draws, cheap in-room safe, and a reasonable shower/toilet. Sure the room is not big, but enough space to leave all my stuff, and I only need it from ~12:00 midnight until ~9:30am. Occasionally I do stay in my room all day watching movies and having a drink or two.

I could easily pay double that rate to get a no name brand hotel a little bit more up market or I can pay >AUD100/night for a place like Mercure, Sheraton, Hard Rock etc. Why? I don't need those places and for 10-11 day trip I can save AUD500+ which can go towards my next trip.

Yes some cities are very expensive but there are also hidden gems in every city. In Athens the Hilton was 200+ Euros and I found the Apollo Hotel for ~60 Euro/night with buffet breakfast. Great place and my dad loved it.

I don't think I ever said they were great hotels but they are perfect for short stays where a single person is not going to spend too much time in the room. I have yet to come across any of the issues mentioned in any of the reviews one may find on the internet.

I have stayed at both Holiday Inns and the Hilton at various times and I feel they are overpriced.

+1 for Parkroyal on Kitchener.

If you have time on your side before needing to book, try a bid for 5* on priceline.com especially if you are in SIN on a weekend. I landed Conrad for US$80 + booking fee on my last journey.

Ibut they are perfect for short stays where a single person is not going to spend too much time in the room.

They seem to have moved on from the time when they were, well ... perfect for even shorter stays where two people are going to spend the whole time in the room .... That's what they were once famous for. Although I note that the Hotel 81 on Dic#son Road is a place that one can use an ez link card for payment (the card used for public transport in SIN) ... :!: Vast majority of ez link card holders are locals .....

Another vote for Ibis. I stayed there for 4 nights in March. Got it for $oz86 a night at an Accor sale last November. Handy to Bugis MRT, Bugis Junction shopping centre and walking distance to Orchard Road etc, though it can get a bit warm, walking a lot in Singapore! Doesn't worry me a lot, I love to walk around and see stuff. But I also love the MRT, great to experience a real working train service!

Carlton is my favourite hotel in Sg but sadly they have priced themselves out of my budget.

You can get either HI for $150 a night if they have rewards nights available, or $60 for two nights if it goes on pointbreaks

Another +1 for Ibis. Have had a number of friends and colleagues stay there, great value, does the job quite nicely and location is a plus.
