Just got this through from QF:

With immediate effect, there has been a slight increase in rates for Qantas Club renewals and new memberships. There is no change to the join fee.

On average, the price rise equates to around 8% (or around $30 per annum), and is the first published increase in fees since 01 October 2007.
Qantas has invested $70 million in the lounge network across Australia and overseas since the last pricing review in 2007.
This investment has resulted in expanded and refurbished lounges and provides enhanced benefits to Members including:

 • Upgraded meeting rooms and conference facilities in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane introduced in 2008
 • Refurbishment of Regional lounges in Port Headland, Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Mackay and Rockhampton during 2008 and 2009
 • New lounges opened in Los Angeles in November 2008, Perth International Business Lounge in December 2008, London (Terminal 3) in November 2009 and Cairns in December 2009
 • Refurbishment of Honolulu lounge in September 2009, First and Business class lounges in Hong Kong in December 2009
 • Expansion of the Melbourne International Business lounge in September 2008
 • Perth & Canberra lounges will double in size following upgrades due for completion in mid 2010
This is a modest increase in fees for the Qantas Club program, given the investment in lounges.
The attached chart details the actual $ increase amounts. For any further queries please call the Qantas Club Service Centre on 131131.

Now we can see why they brought back the midday bar opening.

Glad I renewed for two years in December.
If the bar opens at midday again, will not mind the increase, in due course.

Makes me even more glad that I have Lifetime Memership - especialy as they knocked that possibility out for new members!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Found out about the increases a couple weeks ago when I received my reminder notice urging me to renew before the new fees, though they wouldn’t say how much they’d change. I believe admin was going to update the pricing for corporate members though in the applicable thread.

Seems to be an increase of $30 for one year and $55 for 2 years.

Interesting, I just received today a targetted email offering QP membership with no joining fee.

Offers:
$435 1 yr
$785 2yr
$1480 4yr

Considering I can access corporate rates of ~$250 join with ~$280 annual, not that great if signing for 4 yrs.

Still, better than nothing, but I wont be taking up (most of my travel is with mrsdoc who is already QP and flies more than me).

admin did mention there was an increase a few weeks ago. That was probably a good warning if anyone paid attention :!:

I should feel guilty that my life membership cost less than 1 years membership now.But of course I dont.:D

Ahh, those were the days, weren't they!

Mind you, a 4 year membership is more than I paid for a lifetimes membership, so I don't really mind as well! ;)

qantas increases everything...

I'd hardly expect them to reduce the price of the QP - as they say, they have done lots of renovations, and the price of their liquor / edibles would have to have increased over that time frame too.

One could argue that flights subsidise the Qantas Club, but I suspect they ensure it is revenue generating on their own.

I guess someone at QP worked out that the lifetime memberships may have been a little too generous. Glad they are honouring them!

You shouldn't feel guilty.

I know two people who still have their Lifetime Golden Wing Membership cards ... :-|

I get my QP corporate rate somewhat cheaper than Docjames figures but I'm certain the increase will filter through.

Like the increase in fa_ prices are supposedly going to stop people smoking - I trust the fee increase will have the same effect on joining/renewing members and maybe give the QP's more breathing room.

Glad I renewed mine last month, should have paid two years though. Then again it was only $215 in my scheme and I'm likely to get SG by mid year so it won't matter for a while.

.

it increased earlier this year. Was previously ~$200 join, ~$230 annual.
