Hi all

Just a quick question - is there any real/practical difference between a xONEx and a Global explorer?

I just got my itinerary back and am told it is a Global Explorer ticket (in J still).

The itinerary is:

syd-hkg(stop)-dxb-amm-lca(stop)-lhr(stop)-jfk(stop)-mia-atl(stop)-mia-jfk-lax-syd

I have noted that one flight is booked into whY - not sure if that is connected or an availability issue...

There are differences but if it meets your requirements then doesn't make any odds, the price is the same regardless. Your itinerary would seem to be valid for both . Is one of the domestic US flights on a flight number >3000 ( on American Eagle ) which has 1 class only

Thanks Dave.

The flight is AA133 which is a three class 767 - but it is showing A0 D7 L9 - I assume the TA saw the A0 and booked into L as all the other AA flights are in A...

I am getting that fixed.

Given that there are no negative differences are there any positive differences that I could "exploit"?

There are non-OW airlines that can be utilised on the Global Explorer; if you had a need, you could choose from other carriers ( e.g. AS is permitted )

TRAVEL ON ANY AA/AY/AS/BA/CX/EI/FJ/GF/IB/IT/JC/JL/JO/KA/LA/LP/MA/MX/NU/QF/RJ/S7/XL/4M

QF CODESHARE SERVICES ON TN-AIR TAHITI NUI/ VN-VIETNAM AIRLINES/SA-SOUTH AFRICAN AIRWAYS AND JQ-JETSTAR.

ADDITIONALLY TRAVEL IS PERMITTED ON THE
FOLLOWING AFFILIATE AIRLINES -
-
ALASKA AIRLINES - HORIZON AIR

So you could use Gulf Air for example for part of travel or come back on a nice daytime flight from HNL rather than overnight from LAX without needing a day with a QF flight operating ( e.g. MIA-DFW-HNL on AA the JQ HNL-SYD )

Also, although there are stopover limitations there seems to be unlimited transfers so can , I believe, do more than 4 sectors per continent just that limited in stopovers

A potential downside of the xGLOBx fares is that they only allow a maximum of 4 stopovers (with 34K and 39K products, even less on the smaller tiers) in North America.

Given the xONEx fares allow 6 segments, they are potentially more generous.

Of course many of us maximise segments, with perhaps only one or two stopovers, so may not a great problem.

The other practical difference at least last year was on a DONE you are allowed only one stopover in continent of origin at either or both ends of the itinerary whereas Glob allowed me SIN-BNE(stop)-DRW(stop)-SYD for an itinerary originating in SYD.

I had a similar experience. I used the oneworld tool and thought it was a LONE5 booking. This dummy booking was then given to the travel agent.

ADL-SYD-NRT*-SIN-LHR-CPH*-LHR-DXB*-LHR-ORD*-LAX*-MIA-GIG*-SCL*-EZE*-SYD-ADL

*: stopover

The itinerary that I now have says it's a Global Explorer fare. Interestingly it's $300 cheaper than the fare I got from the oneworld booking machine.

Both the Global Explorer and the One World Explorer have the same restrictions on stopover in origin. The xONCEWCn fares still allow 2 stopovers in continent of origin with no reference to direction of travel

What is that fare dave and how does it price?

What is what fare? the xONEWCn seems to be priced same as a xONE3 and xONE4 . For an xONEWC4

A.TRAVEL MUST BE ON THE SERVICES OF AY/BA/CX/
IB/JC/JL/JO/KA/LA/MA/NU/QF/RJ ONLY TRAVELLING VIA
THREE OR FOUR CONTINENT ROUTING SPECIFIED IN
FLIGHT APPLICATION PARAGRAPH /B/. BACKTRACKING
BETWEEN CONTINENTS IS NOT PERMITTED HOWEVER
BACKTRACKING WITHIN A CONTINENT IS PERMITTED.
B.TRAVEL MUST BE A CIRCLE TRIP VIA FOLLOWING
ROUTING -
1. AFRICA-SWP-ASIA-AFRICA VV
2. AFRICA-ASIA-EUROPE/MIDDLE EAST-AFRICA VV
3. AFRICA-EUROPE/MIDDLE EAST-ASIA-SWP-AFRICA VV
4. SWP-ASIA-AFRICA-SWP VV

6. ASIA-SWP-AFRICA-ASIA VV
7. ASIA-EUROPE/MIDDLE EAST-AFRICA-ASIA VV

9. EUROPE/MIDDLE EAST-ASIA-AFRICA-EUROPE/MIDDLE

Otherwise seems fairly similar in rules to a xONEn

If you move to a 2 class flight, could you not get an "F" seat (and SCs)? Or will that force-book into L?

As far as exploitation goes, a DONE3 or DONE4 can be far more beneficial per $ if looking to maximize SC's from travel. You need to buy a DGLOB39 (at much higher cost) to match what can be done with one of them.

If there is A class available, then it books into First class, otherwise L is needed for "coach" (unless its a 1 class AeAgle when it books into Y).

If looking to Maximize SC's from a DONEx or a DGLOBnn, avoid booking on a 3 class domestic AA flight if you can help it.

Since it's showing A0, you can't even consider AAdvantage eVip/SWP or miles upgrades to First class at this stage. Do you still have any vestiges of EXP remaining?

No eVIPs remaining and everyone I lent ones to have also dropped off the eVIP repayment.

I am happy in J - I have about 5 F flights on AA anyway and already and WP...
