Sinagpore to Australia in J
This has also been scaled back, and while the overnight SIN-AUS flights never had a substantial menu, they’ve reduced the number of mains from 4 to 3. I noticed they reduced the number of staters and mains on the AUS-SIN menu as well - disappointing overall.

Looking at the menus posted by rooflyer on their current QR flights it looks like they’ve scaled back as well! must be some serious savings.

And the steak has gone!

I have never found steak served in J on any airline to be satisfactory. I assume close to impossible to 'get it correct'.

In contrast, chicken and pork dishes generally seem fine, and while not being a huge fan of fish on board (though not total avoidance like @jase05 ), it too generally seems OK to good.

Wouldn't that be bringing a slow cooked beef to the menu (rather than the oft complained about steak cremation), even if I do see it as a bit of a fad trend at the moment?
It would be - the prep still needs to be done correctly, as you don't want a bunch of shreds that taste like paper but you also don't want a rubber doorstop (cf. the previous hockey pucks).

Trend schmend, don't care too much, as for beef in the sky it's always been a good bet (relatively speaking), aside from long braises (e.g. beef bourguignon) or thinly sliced.

The short rib will be interesting then. Pray that it will not be overcooked.
Bah, pumpkin or celeriac puré on the side, what a disgrace, both! But sounds indeed good otherwise.

Even AA manages to serve a tasty short rib dish on its Domestic flights so it should not be too hard to do (AA usually has Mac and Cheese on the side which is infinitely superior to anything pumpkin in my book!).

The Japanese and Korean carriers do exceptional steaks on board!

back in the 60s to 80s they served fillet steaks in the main cabin. Also perfectly acceptable. But they were reheated in a ramekin in liquid.

People now are demanding individually plated meals!

Even supposedly good restaurants can get steak very wrong, as I found out in melbourne a couple weeks ago :(

(edited to fix spelling)

I have to disagree there- at least JAL I loathe for their mediocre and boring steaks. Which is pretty much the only choice, if one cannot eat fish or seafood. Which is the main reason that of all OW carriers, I avoid JAL like the plague (alongside the always overheated cabins) while many people rave about it. Funny how opinions can differ.

I’m a non seafood eater so all seafood is out for me.
I’m a very fussy eater though 🤣

Speaking of scaling back, in J in all of my recent INTL flights, there has been no inflight magazine. Is this a cost saving measure too? (weight saving)

They were there on my last flights. As recent as last week.

Although, I often have it on Pressreader anyway.
