Western Sydney Airport (WSI) Discussion

OK so some more terminal shots- the international gates seem to be off to the left of 22+; downstairs gates 18 etc not in use and presumably intended for turboprop services or otherwise boarding via tarmac. Digital and regular artwork around the place, much of it Nancy themed

Decent array of seating and power points etc- I can see this also getting wrecked very quickly unfortunately. Nothing seems particularly hard wearing for a high traffic airport terminal, it's more lounge seating

Crew change for the WSI-MEL sector (the same OOL/SYD based crew did WSI-OOL-WSI then switched to a MEL based crew for the next sector, presumably driven in from SYD?). Gate swag for this flight- more biscuits and I finally scored a WSI tshirt

Alright so the inaugural WSI-MEL had a delay due to a thunderstorm passing through which meant ground staff couldn't be on the tarmac to finalise loading cargo etc. 20 minutes delayed taking off

Still really curious to see if this will make a mark especially for Sydneysiders living out west vs closer to Mascot, let alone others who may have a choice due to being quasi-equidistant from both of them.

One thing that seems certain for now is WSI is an endpoint and not so much a connecting gateway.
I think there is also the regional NSW catchment area too, including the ACT that will be keeping on eye on what is planned for flights. Getting to Mascot can be a real pain, and from the ACT hideously expensive, so the more options the better.

Not sure how much cheaper it would be to get to WSI from CBR, unless drive yourself and car parking I presume wide be a lot less.

Most of the time now we bus or train to Sydney for flights. You might get lucky with $180/person each way on QantasLink Dash 8 ($720 for a couple), compared with $300 return on the bus for the two of us, buying the extra seats next to us. Plus the CBR/SYD leg is one of the most cancelled routes, as we have discovered several times.

Alright last lot from me- views on climb out from WSI to MEL. Arrived MEL 28 minutes late after the ground delay in WSI and then a hold entering MEL
