Not actually flying, but whilst staying at our hotel in Perth.
There was the Wallabies rugby union team staying at the same hotel. Had their own dining area and recreation room. But we encountered them in the general foyer and lifts.
Some of them are very big boys! But very polite and would always say hello.
Unfortunately , not being a Rugby fan I didnt know any of them by name

They loved their thai food and at at the restaurant we frequently ate at. It was on the second floor. One night as I was leaving George Gregan was coming up the stairs. I waited for him and when he reached the step blow me we were eye to eye. And the size of his neck!
I nearly said but on the field you look like a midget up against al the other guys.

Yeah I'm not a rugby person, being originally from Vic in the days when VFL was the only thing anyone cared about. But I'm aware of George Gregan and always wondered how such a "little guy" managed among the giants. I can add that I was in a hotel in Fremantle in the mid nineties when the first post-apartheid Springboks team arrived including many ex players in the press entourage. All giants. I remember them laughing at the local Aussies stopping at red lights etc which apparently you just didn't dare do in South Africa because of carjacking etc

My sons used to regularly play the sons of John Eales, George Gregan and Phil Kearns in junior rugby union and cricket in the lower north shore of Sydney and the parents were always interested but respectful spectators.. Phil Kearns once took the whistle in a rugby union pre-season match and awarded one of the Swans his first ever try. My son of course had no idea who he was!

Yes I do remember those players well in their day and their faces are familiar. But the new group seem unfamiliar. But I do have the game on TV at the moment, checking out the faces were saw at the hotel.
My son met John Eales just recently through work and said he was very nice.

I still remember being in the same Harrogate hotel as the touring Kangaroos League team in 1978 (the tour before the "Invincibles")
They were enormous (especially to an 8 year old) and very gentlemanly.
I think it was the first time I had stayed in a large hotel and was very impressed by the breakfast buffet

Junior rugby in Northern Sydney can be a game of spot the Wallaby dad, but that is a premier trio.
A fair number of ex-NRL dads too as union talent can get your son a good discounted education.

Big Units The forward pack (No 1-8) would often have a combined weight of nearly 1 Ton.
And in a real scrum they can push over 1 Ton. Maybe 1.5T
And the other side pushing back with similar

No wonder they need necks thicker than most people's thighs.

Not all brawn, Some are more cerebral than one might expect.
