Even as a P1, the chicken often isn't there by the time the trolley gets to me down the back end of the plane. They must have enhanced it away...

Question for the brains trust: when booking an Emirates Classic Flight Reward arriving into one country but with the return departing from another country, do we essentially have to pay for two lots of fees and charges since it's two countries involved? As opposed to a straightforward return from the same country (even if departing from a different city within that country).

You pay the applicable fees and charges for the country of departure on the return.

Same as a return ticket where you pay the fees and charges from each country of departure.

It’s all included in the price of the ticket.

So my original ticket was SIN-DXB-MAD/BCN-DXB-SIN and the fees and charges on this booking were ~AUD2450. I wanted to change the return flights to ATH-DXB-SIN and the agent quoted an additional ~AUD2400 in fees and charges to be paid. Does this sound right? If so it sure is expensive to depart from Greece vs Spain.

Perhaps there was a misunderstanding somewhere… there would be new charges of 2400, but a refund of 2450? Or they’re converting it to some sort of points plus pay?

Whatever it is, it shouldn’t be an additional 2400. There might be a slight increase due to fuel surcharges increasing.

You can do a dummy booking for the one way flight to see the exact taxes fees and charges.

There's been some really weird stuff happening recently.

I'm not giving the game away, but I should have been charged a small fortune for shifting some reward flights on a partner carrier (and in the process picking up W or J instead of the Y I originally paid for). All I was charged was a 5,000 pt switch fee.

Assuming this was a classic award, that is so wrong.

The moment you fly the first segment of a Qantas Classic award booking it is considered used and NO refunds are possible.

This is one reason why I never redeem reward flights as a return booking.
I always keep the bookings separate.

As mentioned above open jaw tickets don’t attract any particular increase in charges… unless of course your departure is from somewhere like London where it attracts a luxury premium departure tax (but that’s nowhere near $2000).

What may have increased is the fuel surcharge, but again nowhere near the levels you were quoted. Against that is the strengthening Aussie dollar, which would reduce some fees very very slightly.

Without knowing the ins and outs of your ticket, difficult to say what the charge came up as it did.

The only thing I can think of is that they intended to bill you the new charges, and refund the old ones… and it shouldn’t be ‘in addition’.

So that’s $1200… so when you call back ask for a breakdown of where they come up with $2400… if that’s the figure you get again. And whether that includes any refund of taxes fees and charges from the ticket you are changing.

I have found a reward seat on JL774 to NRT then JL835 to HKG, however if I only choose to book JL774 alone, Qantas website doesn't show up its availability. Is there a glitch on Qantas website and is it bookable for its own leg only?

Probably subject to inventory control.

JL won’t make the sector available to tokyo only, but will make it available in conjunction with onwards travel from tokyo. They’re hoping anyone who wants to travel to tokyo only will pay $$$.
