2027 travel plans

LuxuryLizard, I spent five weeks in Ireland, Scotland, Iceland and Greenland this year. It was one hell of a trip. Truly the experience of a lifetime.

Next year looks like possibly a Canada/Alaska trip in the middle of the year.

My travel in 2027 is going to be a bit limited.
In September 2026, my Parisian partner will move from the university-based phase to the hospital-based phase of his medicine degree.
Which means no holidays except for exam revision.
So I will only be heading to Paris and we may not even be able to do our usual side trips.
Last year we did London and Naples for a weekend each, and then a week in Singapore with a stopover in Abu Dhabi.
This year we have done trips to Madrid, the Canary Islands, Barcelona and Vienna.
I am still hoping we can revisit Spain and Vienna next year.
But it will depend entirely on his availability.
And yes I could travel without him but frankly the prospect just doesn't appeal anymore.

Any unusual suggestions for weekend trips from Paris would be welcome.

• May-June
  • SYD-SIN-AMS (SQ award booked with AC points) // AMS-EDI to be booked
  • 1 week in Scotland (no plans yet) - first time to Scotland but home of my ancestors
  • 11 day cruise from EDI to DUB on Silversea
  • 1 week in Ireland (no plans yet) - first time to Ireland
  • 2 weeks in Austria (Zell am See and Kitzbuhl)
  • FRA-SIN-SYD (SQ award booked with AC points)
• September
  • A few weeks in Canada maybe with an Alaskan cruise and a bear lodge in BC (just planned/not booked)

Recommend a visit to the Royal Yatch Britannia from Edinburgh. It was quite fun!

Hmm 2027? .... Timor Leste (again)...such an amazing and fascinating country. Definitely Cambodia as we will scout out a few locations to retire in. Maybe Thailand and Singapore for a couple of short trips.

Late Jan - mid Feb 2027 quick trip ASP - CDG. Non-stop from PER to CDG, literally the first time I have ever flown Qantas long haul (and will be longest sector ever flown too). Visiting WW1 battlefields. Mainly staying in AirBNB's in Arras and Verdun. Booked a Peugeot 2008 from Sixt. Repeating what I did in Feb this year, staying a bit longer and focussing on the Western Front this time (in Feb also visited London and Belgium). Can't wait.

My travel plans for 2027 is to travel as much Premium Cabin on OneWorld as much as possible, where I really need to achieve Qantas Lifetime Gold by then to ensure I am able to travel with 100kgs of baggage allowance and lounge access everytime before I fly.

Beyond Patagonia in March I'm looking to South Korea and Taiwan (or Japan) later in the year when the heat/humidity is reduced but it's not yet freezing. Will see how I go with flights. Too much to do beforehand to think that far ahead. Got the Euro trip (6 weeks) starting next week so maybe after that I'll think about it.

Well my 2027 continues on from Christmas in. Bangkok. First another 3 weeks in Bangkok Finishing up at. The IC. Then a J Lifemiles redemption on TG. to HKG Stanford Grand.Then 5 nights at the IC Stanford Grand.
At the end of January booked to board the Silver Muse back to Singapore.

An in June just booked a week in Darwin. Booked the Mantra Pandanas with lifemiles. It is only 140 meters on the flat to our favourite restaurant Moorish.

Family wedding on the south Coast of NSW, probably fly to CBR then hire a car - whoopee!

It looks like we'll be off to Iceland and Greenland again next year. Our friend with the apartment on The World has told us she's thinking of selling in 2028 and that if we'd like to sail again we'd better get planning. So we did.

Ideally we'll board in Bergen August 10 or 11 and head to Iceland via the Orkneys, Shetlands and Faroes. This will be expedition one.

After a couple of ports in Iceland, we depart Reykjavik on August 22 on expedition two, 10 days of South and West Greenland arriving in Nuuk for two nights on Sep 2.

Then it's expedition three, Canada's North East (no detail of what/where) for two weeks. We'll leave the ship in St John's on September 20.

We're locked in for our expeditions of western Greenland and north eastern Canada on The World. We'll board in Reykjavik on August 22 and leave the ship in St John's on either September 22 or 23.

The voyage from Bergen has been replaced with a trip to Switzerland, somewhere we haven't been before. Hard to give up the opportunity of free accommodation in Geneva staying in 'the pool house'! Yep, this is the pool house



Yesterday I booked points flights through to GNV in Y and Y+ - BNE-MEL QF Y, MEL-HKG QF Y, HKG-HEL AY Y+, HEL-GNV Y. We might have to break our golden rule of never more than one bag each and take a third. We both need jackets for some restaurants/nights on the ship, our giant wellington boots, warm jackets etc. Luckily my OW status will give me that.

We've got a few days to play with between GNV and when we want to get to Iceland so we'll maybe get train somewhere.

Flying home from Canada's east coast is still tbd. Whatever we do it won't touch the USA.

Toronto-Vancouver-Brisbane with Air Canada? Maybe Toronto-Hong Kong-Brisbane with CX? Quite a few options.

If we do take that third bag CX looks like the best option. That's unless bAlt's Air Canada gold (through HSBC) card hangs around and provides access to two bags for him.

Not for me but for my grand-daughter. She entered year 7 (12 years old) at High School this year and one of her subjects is Chinese. To my surprise she is enjoying it and is getting A's. She is now booked to do a 'school tour' to China next year.

Currently there will be 13 kids in the group with 3 adults supervising. They fly CX Perth to Hong Kong and then start their tour. They will be visiting Shanghai, Beijing - Tiananmen Square and the Great Wall, the Terracotta Army, a Water Town. Plus a day river cruise and some cooking lessons. They will be staying at branches of Western Hotel Chains. The trip includes two bullet trains and one flight.

It must be said that the state school system here is trying to encourage students to learn other languages. In primary school she had a year of Noongar and two years of Indonesian.

A trip to the country of the language you are studying is usually hugely motivating for students. What a fabulous trip for her.
