Anyone else's Qantas app having trouble with boarding pass / check in this morning? Was fine when I went to bed, but right now says technical problem on app and MMB also can't get check-in/ boarding pass.

I’ve trawled the forums and am really not sure where to post this, so apologies if it’s in the wrong place.

I’m seeking guidance predominantly re upgrade criteria for non identical itineraries:

1. If there are 2 pax on a single PNR with different status, do they both have an equal chance of an upgrade, determined by the status of the higher ranked pax?

2. If two separate PNRs are linked due to only flying together in one direction, will both pax have an equal chance of an upgrade when flying together, and will this be determined for both by the status of the higher ranked pax?

3. Can a single PNR for two pax be altered so that one pax either departs or returns on different flights? If not, is this classified as splitting a booking, and if it was booked under DSC, will DSC still apply for both pax afterwards?

Thanks for any expert advice that can be provided…

Upgrades on a single PNR are for all on the booking, or none on the booking, and based on the status of the pax who made the booking. The highest status pax should book and request if that’s what you plan to do. Exception to this I believe is if you have a P1 on the booking and they request the upgrade.

Separate bookings are treated separately based on the status of each pax. The linking of bookings will share the boarding group of the highest status pax to the other, nothing else obvious will happen (you will appear as travelling together in the system is all)

Booking would need to be split for travel movements to be altered for one but not the other. A new PNR will be created when this happens, but anecdotally and so long as the new travel dates are still within the eligible travel period for the DSC then it should work out for both.

One last thing - is the pecking order for upgrades determined by everyone’s situation at the time the requests are first made, or at notification time? I’m guessing the latter…

To that I'd just add that IME an upgrade request for 2 PAX has a great deal less chance of success than an upgrade for 1 PAX.

That’s my fear.

I wonder it if would be better to book separate PNRs, link, and then have me request both upgrades as the higher status pax?

However under this scenario, am I still able to select seats online for both of us?

I don’t think you’ll gain any advantage from separate PNRs, particularly when booking seats or seeking upgrades. The golden rule is to book into the class you want to travel. Any upgrade is a bonus.

The flipside to that is live within your means!

in my case, I can’t justify paying for J long haul, as I prefer to spend the funds at the destinations, and I don’t have sufficient points to request Classic Rewards seats!

I have Bronze status so can only see certain seats in J on a 787 which I dont really like . I have booked and paid for the tickets and it is 11 months ahead . As we get closer to the travel date do other seats open up for Bronze ?

https://www.qantas.com/en-au/onboard/seat-selection indicates the more premium sections (including forward zone, and extra legroom) open up 24h before - not sure if practically there's earlier opportunity.

The PNR is created before going to the payment page; in fact it exists by the time you can select seats.

Not just you - just logged in to check; same thing.

Amusingly, not showing bookings but still asking me if I want to spend points to "offset" emissions on next week's flights...
