Seems I am starting to travel again - albeit minor domestic travel.

Upcoming MEL-SYD on QF - presumably flexi-saver (what inventory is that?).

So am I better of crediting to QF or AA?

QF I am LT PS
AA I am MM GLD

so QF I get 1000 points?
AA I get 707 miles plus 25% bonus as GLD = so 884 miles?

Difference is negligible and specifically not sufficient to overcome the greater value of AA miles than QF points.

Status probably does not come into it for me - I will be making 9-12 such flights (some to BNE) a year which is not enough to earn status higher than my existing Lifetime status on either airline.

So I guess I am earning on AA? Am I missing anything?

Actually just remembered that I am PLT until end of Feb so would get 50% bonus on AA. Which makes it over 1000 miles. QED?

A related question is - for seat selection/allocation am I any better off being QF LT PS than AA PLT?

SYD-MEL is 439 miles . As a platinum AA member you earn 500 base plus 100% bonus = 1000

Flexi savers are definitely mileage earning to AA and the earning to AA and QF will be identical at 1000 miles

OW Sapphire should get better seating options than Silver status I would expect

And AA miles, in most situations, has a better burn per $$ Although I am unsure of partner availability... + 500 miles (I think) accrue towards your 500 mile upgrades.

I am sure flexisaver bucket (K??) are eligable for AA miles... I think it was only O and e that are not eligable.. (runs off)

Actually no, Qantas Airways
just e, which I think are sale fares (so red-e still get you points, again I think!)

Actually, AA will measure it as 439 + 561 ;)

for example, BNE-SYD posts as "QANTAS AIRWAYS 509 Y BNE SYD 466 534 1,000"

They report it as 439 + 561 but the basis of earning is 500 + 500 and forms the basis for the qualifying miles for the flight
