Will you still earn/retain Velocity status beyond 2025?

What impact will the Velocity changes have on your status beyond 2025?

Oddly there are plenty of flying choices, not connected with Virgin!

For decades, I stuck within their pretty limited network and worked within it. Worked for us, and worked for Virgin.

Looking now at flying Qantas Business Class to Santiago Chile, as Qantas has a very cheap deal on.
Would you really, really (!) have looked at a Virgin partner airline for the convoluted flights needed to get to Santiago?

Will be intersting to see VA's half yearly results on Friday to see if any of this matters. As someone who travels both airlines - Qantas is killing it at the moment.

Despite my expectation of dropping from WP to SG for the coming year (at the time of the poll), it looks like I may just scrape by to retain WP for the coming year. However, my bookings with VA have been significantly less this year so far compared to last year.

I also responded that I would drop from plat to gold, yet my next review date is in August and I'm already well past half the required credits thanks to some Qatar/VA flights and Air NZ in J to Auckland.
So despite my response, it appears I was very wrong, and I'm honestly surprised. At this rate I'll be gifting gold by August.

The changes to the Velocity programme has changed my travel spend habits. I retained QF WP within 3 months of my new year and, despite that, have continued to book with them and will end up with more SCs for the year than I ever achieved even to earn WP the first time. I'll never fly enough to earn P1 but I'll end up with the most SCs I've ever earned in a year. Meanwhile, with VA, I'll just scrape through to retain WP but that will be close to 10 months into my year with them. Last year it was the other way around.

I am in the boat that thought they'd drop this year. However, I'll unexpectedly just retain WP this year thanks mostly to the current bonus SC promo that just happened to coincide with some travel in March. Ditto with the June 2025 DSC promo. In between those promos I booked a reward flight rather than cash thinking that there's no point in earning SCs.

Maybe the same lucky timing will happen in my next year. If not, the inevitable slide will commence and VA flights will be rewards.

my Gold just got renewed until Feb 2027, but there is ZERO chance of retaining it. It is simply impossible now to get that many S/C, and ludicrously expensive!! very annoyed. I will slide to Silver, then to Red, then probably look at if I should change to Qantas FF. sigh

WP to SG for me, I fly VA for work (it's a mandate) so I'll probably remain SG until I change employers, or they change airlines.

I'd be quite interested in seeing a follow-up poll to see if those that thought they'd drop ended up retaining.
I’d like to actually see VA bring in rollover SCs as per QF has now done.
I’ve got Plat+ AND have pooled to my wife and still have way too many SCs.

I can pretend to reside at your place as I could do with a few extra SCs.

I don't even think VA know what QF are doing or upto, being run by yanks their world is the only world.

There was comment up thread about VA's share price, how its a disaster, everyone's leaving, etc. Just to illustrate how the share price can be / is disassociated with an airline's performance or appeal, note that:

Qantas to create 8500 jobs and overhaul frequent flyer program after record profit

Qantas has delivered a record half year profit of $1.46bn, up $71m on the previous corresponding period, as it announced plans to re-establish a cabin crew base in Asia, create 8500 more jobs by 2030, and allowfrequent flyers to earn status credits on the ground.

was met today with:

Qantas dumped by investors after mixed result

Qantas has fallen more than most companies listed on the S&P/ASX 200 in afternoon trade on Thursday, as investors react to its first-half results. They delivered a mixed bag with the airline’s first-half profit before tax of $1.45 billion coming in ahead of expectation, while international operations lagged.

Down over 9% on the day!

Figure it out.

Insert the obligatory “previous performance may not indicate future results” quote.

I’m sitting at 2940 AFTER pooling.
And I’m Gold/PPS with SQ and Gold with Qatar…..
Still doesn't top 2018 where I hit 6900 after multiple flights to LAX & HKG in J on double SCs.

Of course, this all on your own dime.
