Husband and I are treating brother in law and niece to a trip to UK and Amsterdam in March / April with us. I booked the original flights Mel: LHR: AMS return premium economy back in November.
I made a guess on the LHR : AMS date based on needing to be at a work function and these dates frustratingly have changed.
I called Qantas P1 line today to make the change to the LHR : AMS flights only (on BA) and was told that the change would be $2085 per person simply to change the LHR : AMS return flight dates (main flights between MEL and LHR dont change).
I didn’t get through to Hobart - presumably because it’s a Sunday and I think possibly I was through to Mumbai.
I nearly fell over - I can book a return BA flight for £133 LHR to AMS.
When I asked him why the price has changed so much he said because my destination is AMS and therefore the whole booking changes and the prices I booked at are no longer available. But I only way to change the BA flights not the Qantas ones.
I asked if I could cxl the BA flights and make my final destination London - apparently not and of course it would be considered a no show if I just miss the flight and rebook a BA one.
I have had a quick look on Qantas and the cheapest I could find for the dates is now $14500 - I paid $11876.
Is there a way around this or is it on me? (To stump up over $2k for a $260 flight) and when I call P1 tomorrow is there anything different I should ask?
Huge thanks if anyone can help me on this one.
