One world becoming less relevant

Reminiscent of our recent experience flying CX —> QF on a CR.

Initially booked QF HKG-SYD online and then added CX PNH (now KTI) to HKG by calling up.

There was a second reticketing after the airport change but online, the trip was in the QF MMB and visible on CX including OWE status and access to preferred seats.

Yet at the airport checkin, our FF#s had dropped off with zero benefits. We had done OLCI but no BP was issued. So no warning that something was wrong.

I hinted to the agent to enter a leading zero (not shown on the vFF card in app) and all restored.

I’m speculating that locking down all these systems is causing some issues?

It seems strange that my QF number was not included for all sectors of the booking seeing QF issued the ticket.
This happened to me on my last J OWA . My QF Ff# was on the Qantas and AA boarding passes no problem, but it had droped off the BA and AY flights.

Agent at BA first lounge entry kindly added it and gave me new BA boarding pass after showing my platinum card (this is why i still order a physical card every year) but at HEL the lounge dragon was adamant i only had access to J lounge until his supervisor came over and did something.

I had used first check-in at HEL and wondered why the agent was not friendly she probably thought i was a dumb tourist in the wrong line, not that there was anyone else queuing.

Just to recap, you had your QF silver status in the booking.

If so, you would have been assigned a boarding group from 3-6 depending on where you were seated on the aircraft.

You either didn’t look at your group number or chose to ignore it and attempted to board before your group was called.

The system denied you boarding and you’re upset that you were asked to wait your turn.

Does that about cover it?

I’m not seeing the issue here.

Qantas do lots of things badly and I’m all for calling that out when it happens.

But group boarding has been enforced consistently by QF since it was introduced.

Unless there’s something missing from your recount of the event this seems like a….

No, I exercised my FF privileges according to my emerald status as per the terms & conditions and the sign posted at the gate that allows OW priority boarding. Every other flight I’ve taken recently they must have manually overriden the system within seconds to allow me through. Instead of doing this or trying to handle the situation professionally to the best of her knowledge she was very rude and unhelpful. Instead of lowering myself to her level I went to the service desk to resolve the issue and then made a formal complaint. Qantas has since apologised in writing for the flight attendant’s poor behaviour, stated the team involved will be coached on the difference between OW points & OW privileges, credited me the points for the flight (as double dipping points was never my intention), and agreed that I was entitled to board early.

I wish I was able to get a Qatar physical card, ever since Covid they’ve been claiming one will be sent…

Just a note whilst you are complaining about QF. CX has outright and clearly disallowed this as of a few months ago with a change aimed at this. If you travel with CX, make a clear choice between what FF you want in your boarding pass. If your OWE isn't on the boarding pass with CX, expect denial of all benefits.
