Hobart - Melbourne business 1 way $512 throughout most of next year on current Boxing Day sale ( Edit - not on sale, after all 🥴…) including March-April when I was looking for. So ~$1,024 return. A220s.

Virgin business $634 return, same days, B737.

So, $400 more, on a sale? For an hours flight each way, I'll tolerate a B737.

No question that VA wins on price! Consistently.

Which is why I don’t think there will be a mass exodus of members with the new FF changes. They're locked in with price.

Some good fares on QF to places like Bali, in economy, $606 return, with an additional comfort seat for around $400. If you’re not platinum with access to one of the rows with an empty middle seat, this is a good alternative for a couple.

Business class on this route (or any?) isn’t part of the Boxing Day Sale.

Business IS NOT in the sale…

However Y is

So this cancellation cost when the Red-E deal is $135 and the change fee is $110 leaving a credit of $25… best then to take the taxes refund of $30 plus

🤷‍♂️

My email from qantas was headed Boxing Day sale. Opening the email said ‘find sale fares’… clicking on that gave me the choice of business or economy.

So if you went straight to business class you wouldn’t even notice that economy fares had ‘sale’ marked by them!

I just assumed that all fares available via the link would be sale fares. Which to be fair, they are pretty much at the same level for business as all the other sales they have.

Exactly. So, not on sale so - follow the links, choose business and a straight out attempt to sucker people. Fortunately their prices are so outrageous that it’s not even a temptation.

That’s the thing… I think *some* of their business class ‘non-sale’ sale fares are actually pretty reasonable for the added benefits. Particularly in the east coast where it might be in the region of $150-200 over VA… but you’re climbing pretty quickly to gold or platinum status with the significant benefits those bring compared to VA.
