Qantas First Class menus

Agree, AU-SIN is so short, and the meal takes around 3 hours. Not much room to manoeuvre. Unless they introduce an express option… which I would like to see!
If and when on demand dining is available and requested, the pax will probably be advised at that time the lastest the meal will have to commence, explaining so the full service can be comfortably (for the pax) completed before the pre arrival second meal (if pax indicates they will be partaking) or the arrival close off time (to avoid any DYKWIA offence being taken).

Itll be interesting how it may occur. On a SIN/Oz flight timing windows for this are narrow; more opportunity transPacific or Europe.
They must be separating the meals in some way now.

In the past year or two, on F in LAX-SYD/MEL, I've had my main meal not long after departing LAX.
At least a couple of hours prior to landing, I've for whatever reason felt like having a second main for breakfast and have been told no, it's "too late". More than once. Sometimes I feel like (and plan on it before departing) having the breakfast menu, sometimes not.

I suppose the "old way" meal refrigeration lasts for a certain time only - I can't make sense of that, so someone please enlighten me!

How early did you tell them you wanted the main for breakfast?

Do they rotate out the old meal trolleys in F at a certain point and bring in the breakfast ones… like they do in business class? Maybe either the trolley was gone, or the food had reached its storage limit?

At least 2-3-4 hours out from landing, depending on the flight.
I also have asked if all the other mains were unavailable and I was told it was too late.

Not sure what you mean by "trolley" - I've never seen a meal trolley on QF F. Not like in the 737.
The storage limit must be it - sounds like the breakfast meals are all frozen, and the dinner meals are not?
But then if a refrigerated meal can't last 9 or so hours in the fridge ...

The trolley is in the galley. All meals and service items come in via these. In business and economy they shuffle them around between meals as galley space is limited. So it might have been the case that the dinner trolleys had been sent to storage and the breakfast ones brought out already.

So you probably need to ask for a dinner main course pretty early on in the flight, before they send the trolleys away?

The meals aren’t frozen… they are snap chilled before heating. Individual trolleys arent refrigerated so they probably do have a shelf life.

Oh, thought your post meant the staff wheel the trolley through the aisle next to your F seat/suite. Like they do on the 737.
Where do the F trolleys get sent to storage? Is there a chute where they go to another level?
If individual trolleys aren't refrigerated, what happens with the breakfast items for the possibly 10+ hours until the items are prepared for serving?
I get the point about asking early on to save a meal .. but the issue is I may not feel like it at the time, or simply want to change my mind. This is the point about flexibility. Maybe this new F experience will remove the need for so much advance notice.

Apparently there are some storage areas that have cold air circulating around the trolleys, same same as refrigeration? At least according to my google search 😆

Reporting back on the experience the other day: service excellent throughout. Well paced meal, very attentive service.

Single malt and champagne taster upon boarding.

Canapés and another drink after takeoff. Tasty enough but of course poor caviar service in comparison to competitors.
IMG_6097.jpeg
Soup was poured at table. Was absolutely delicious.
IMG_6099.jpeg
Tuna was also very strong. Quality pieces and great flavour.

Had high hopes and expectations of the toothfish. Sadly these were not met. Thin piece, not evenly cooked and underwhelming lack of flavour in the fish itself. Disappointed with this one.

Pretty full but had affogato and cheese plate. Both good but nothing remarkable.

Tasty and good quality prawns before arrival.

As mentioned earlier, I didn’t test dine on demand. Some elements of refreshed service provided (new amenity kit, hot towels etc) but others not yet (eg headphones). And most relevant the food - nothing of note that is different in terms of offerings. And no ability to see menu before the flight, pre-select meals (including additional options). Which is frustrating. (Just utilised book the cook in J on SQ and had a terrific wagyu beef dish).

Correct. All the meals now in F are loaded in a way that can be cooked on demand. Previously, it was because it was all bulk loaded and cooked at once. So if you asked later, it would have been disposed of after the first service due to it all being cooked.
Thanks. Good to know.
Once I had BTC on SQ F and asked for it earlier in the flight - the main meal was a dinner service that was towards the end of the flight. Was told that due to it being frozen, they had to wait for it to thaw, so it couldn't be prepared any earlier.
