So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

What is it Cossie ?

Ford Sierra XR4I 4x4 tarmac rally car with a special V6 Cosworth 24 valve, quad cam engine, the main reason why I bought it. The engine is worth more than the rest of the car. No idea what I'm going to do with it, certainly not rally it, I wasn't very good 50 years ago, doubt I'm any better now!
Seemed like a good idea at the time...

We finally have a tow bar with working loom, they had the car for the the time we were away, and it took another 3 goes to get the updated codes from Germany.

We've just replaced our Range Rover Sport with a Golf GTI. Sold the caravan, so no need for a tow vehicle any more.View attachment 479899

Did you order a tow bar for it? :)

Definitely young folks.. we occasionally have a ride in a GTI.. we have to get down on hands and knees to crawl in and need a ramp to climb back up and out.

It's finally on it's way! No idea when I will get it though. It's on it's way with the Toyota my friend sold to a guy in Gosford.hat is it Cossie ?

Just before CV19 met a guy who imported an Austin~Wolseley from Christchurch, NZ to Victoria. Went on a large roll on~roll off car carrier ship via Japan. Driven on and off the ship.

Roll on, roll off is preferable, but as the other car was coming over as well and they are both coming in under the rally car import scheme, it was easier for me to get someone who has done this previously to do it. He runs cars registered here in NZ rallies fairly regularly.

This Barry's old Celica (the one in the container) at Otago last year, my photos.

Great choice.

Watch the low profile tyres with Victoria’s appalling pot holes - our MkVII.5 has killed about 4 tyres in the last 3 years including one completely shredded on a country road and then a 100km drive home on the space saver for mrsdoc…..

Rims are seemingly fairly robust though as they have taken a kerbside grinding and all the pot holes and have not yet failed…..

Did you get a full size spare or just the stock gubbin?

so I did an Audi driving day at eastern creek a couple of weeks ago.

what fun! I highly recommend it
More info here if anyone wants to go on the waiting list: Audi Dynamic driving experience | Audi Australia

RS3, RS5, RS6, etron-gt and a hot lap with the instructor in a RSQ8.

first half of the day was practising skills, cornering, braking, steering & skidpan
then lunch and then racing in each of the above cars.

They run it on the Philip Island track too in Melbourne.

Steve Pizzati (Top gear AU) is the main instructor and they have a team of other "V8/F3/le man" calibre of drivers (Dont quote me here) to help out on the day per group.

I've been to the Ingolstadt Audi museum/factory earlier this year

Audi driving day

Fantastic concept and they should be compulsory to hold a drivers licence.
We have done a Volvo and two BMW courses, I was already an ok peddler but still learned something and had a heap of fun fanging at the end.
The skid pan spinning wheel ( in a new 540) was a hoot
More important was watching swmbo with an instructor on board throwing her car around the cones like a pro

Just put at $500 deposit down on a 2026 Subaru Outback, some are due early Jan or June. I have agreed to June as we are away for the most part of early 2026.

Would have liked the XT (Turbo) but turbo is now only in the Wilderness model which I don't like

Pity, have been eyeing off the XT for later. I'll have to stick with my 3.6R for the time being.

yeah agreed. chucking on the brakes when going at ~150km/hr in the etron-gt was something of an experience!

I'm very sad about it - I was told it was a decision of the Australian importer (Inchcape Automotive) to not have the standard outback with an XT option. The salesperson suggested it would be too many models for a small market like ours. They are available in the USA, however with Japan producing all Outback it may also be a Subaru head office decision :(

Guess I'll be saving some fuel.....

Lots of ICE cars still being sold, can I ask lovestotravel and major , why not an EV ?

I despise EV's and the number of CCP produced garbage ones that are appearing everywhere.

I need a wagon/large SUV, but prefer a wagon. So option are limited

If I wanted to spend another $60k I'd have a good look at the Audi Q6 E-Tron though
