QF Platinum Recognition on flights

I hope I don't sound like an elitist (I can assure I am not) however being a Platinum Qantas FF member (Emerald One World) for 10+ years I find it strange that when flying on QF flights there is no recognition by the cabin crew/flight services director (FSD) of your loyalty anymore. In previous years you would have the FSD personally come by and introduce himself/herself in the early stages of the flight, sometimes offering you a drink in advance of normal service or providing biz class headphones if flying in economy. The contrast I have found in my recent travels on both Emirates and CX (noting the Emerald status) was that the FSD would make a point of coming by to introduce themselves and to ensure you are always looked after - basically making you feel special (unlike QF!).

I've found it to be hit or miss. Depends heavily on the crew. Some flights you don't get a whisper. On other flights i literally had the Y CSM chase me around the plane because I moved myself last minute. I could see him doing the rounds pause at my previous seat with a very perplexed look (as it was empty), ask the person next to it then disappear. 5mins later he came over to me and asked if I moved from that seat and introduced himself.

I (P1) and my companions (platinum) rarely get a special welcome, domestic or international, Y or J. More often than not it'll be a quick 'Welcome back' upon boarding and then no special treatment at all.

What route?

You won't get anything on domestic as there's just too many elites flying Y.

International Y, I've had a personal welcome on just about every flight in recent years.

International J it's much more discrete, usually will happen later in the flight - it's more of a chat than an offer (since you're in J, you don't need to be elite to ask for things).

On other airlines, EK Y, EK J no; QR Y yes, QR J - I don't recall, I don't think so. BA/AA/AY nothing.

Here's a thread discussing this.

Put into perspective, as EK Plat, I receive no less than 3 personal 1 on 1 introductions on every flight. Even more in F.
In fact, a few weeks ago, on another airline where I'm a top-tier member, the captain came out to welcome me.

oneworld used to have service delivery standards whereby flights over 3hrs, SOP mandated sapphire/emerald were to receive special introductions.
Combination of no enforcement + "we are too busy to say hello to every elite" = some airlines give up

I'm a believer that you should fly with whoever consistently treats you the best.

On my recent two EK flights in J, both times pax around me were welcomed and thanked for their EK WP status. I didn’t get one as a QF WP (even though my BP literally said “Skyrewards Plat”)

However my EK flight before that, about two years ago, I received a welcome in Y.

So unless there’s been a recent change to exclude QF, I think EK can join the consistently inconsistent club (much like their J service in general, IMO).

Four sectors over yesterday and today. No greeting received or expected.
Per-syd points upgrade, the service was probably colder than the shorter economy legs. Polite and functional but no personal interaction.

Did a bit of international earlier in the year and don’t recall anything either. QF, CX and AY.

EK F leg was good, but still no mention of status.

I think it has disappeared since Covid.

Status priority goes something like this...

EK VVIP
EK VIP
EK iO
EK Plat
QF CL
EK Gold
QF P1/Plat
EK Silver
QF Gold
QF Silver
EK Nothing
QF Nothing

I fly EK J monthly as a QF P1 and can't remember the last time at least two and often three people didn't come up to welcome me back (and at the end of the flight ask how it was). It always seems to be very consistently applied

I’m often surprised to receive an at-seat welcome from the cabin manager on EK as QF silver (and usually sitting back in Y). I’ve noticed it’s tends to be when on an EK rather than QF code.

Of all the benefits of being a WP …. this is one I couldn’t give two stuffs about!

Sometimes they say hi, sometimes they don’t. Couldn’t care less either way.

If the ‘welcome’ came with some Dom Perignon or an upgrade to first, sure have at it! But “Hi, thanks for being WP” … my ego doesn’t need it.

You could be on to something, the last flights where I didn’t get a welcome I was on QF codes.

I wouldn’t have thought that would make a difference, surely they just work off the manifest.

QR has been fantastic as a Platinum Privilege. Every flight we’ve had with them we get a personal greeting from numerous staff and have a short conversation.
I don’t expect it on other OW carriers as I think airlines should look after their own best flyers but I have had it on occasions with MH surprisingly being one.

Since getting to Plat:
  • QF73: Yes, greeted on board.
  • AS3455: Nope.
  • CX489: Yes. Greeted after meal service on the flight.
  • CX903: Yes. Greeted upon boarding, offered two water bottles.
  • QF1 (SIN-LHR): Yes, greeted TWICE. Was like uh wat.
  • BA976: Nope.
  • MH805: Yes. Greeted after takeoff.
All flights were in Y,

Has anyone with non QF OWE received a greeting on QF?

That would be interesting to know if QF follows the North American / BA example of only recognising its own elites.

Rarely on QF Dom J I’ve found and it’s been a couple of years since my last QFi flight.

Interestingly on AA earlier this year we did several Dom First routes and a couple of those we received a personal greeting by the crew.

I have no status with any airline.

Discounted Revenue fare in J on QR A380 overnight flight got three personal welcomes and a chat with purser at my seat as a nobody. 🤷‍♂️
