New Qantas promos including double status credits (book by 3/9/25; travel 4/9/25 until 22/8/26)

Per the promo page FAQ, it is answered specifically.

"Will I earn double Qantas Points or double Status Credits if I use ‘Book Now, Pay Later’ to make my flight booking?"

"If you book your eligible flight during the promotion period, you will earn the bonus reward regardless of payment date. You will not earn double Qantas Points or double Status Credits if you do not complete your payment on the advised payment due date. If you book your eligible flight outside the promotion period and pay for your booking within the promotion period, your booking will not be eligible."

Hi, just wondering if anyone can tell me.. If I make a dsc booking in Y, and later change that same booking to J (paying change fees etc) - does that change the PNR, and if not - do the DSC bonus apply to the original Y status credits, or the new J status credits? Many thanks

If you change the booking to J you will be awarded SC’s for J.

However if you are upgrade an existing booking, you are awarded SC’s for the original booking class.

Well, two years in a row QF has successfully sucked me in and got me to book earlier than I would have for trips on my "might be fun to go there sometime" list, and in J.

Returned today from a SYD-BNE-APW-BNE-SYD trip (Samoa truly was the gem people say it is) and pocketed 480 SCs having booked during the October 2024 DSC promo for $2100. While we there, we booked SYD-BNE-VLI-BNE-SYD to give Vanuatu a go next year. That'll be 400 more SCs for $1750 return. In theory, you could earn/retain Platinum for around ~$5000 AUD with a few of those.

That said, the trip we just returned from today in J was a useful sanity check/reminder that paying many thousands of dollars solely to chase status for an average product and the lacklustre benefits on offer is not a rational thing to do (at least in my case as a primarily self-funded flyer), so I'm not going to succumb to the temptation to book more to chase Platinum just to visit the F lounge or maybe-if-I'm-lucky secure a few long-haul rewards in J on request.

But given the fares quoted above, I can tolerate paying twice the economy fare for one trip to guarantee I'll lock in at least SG status in my next membership year. The lacklustre benefits (and at times decent, e.g., AA Flagship Lounge in the US), plus savings on baggage fees and preferential seating on a number of OW carriers probably does balance things out, and we can tick off another "might be fun to go there sometime" place off the list while doing it.

Perhaps the eligibility towards lifetime status could be a driver, but I'm still too far off from that at this point to invest too much after too many years overseas locked into other alliances.

I recently received a QANTAS “care voucher” for an involuntary downgrade. Would I be correct in assuming that using that to book something for DSC/DPs might fail because it’s linked to an existing underlying PNR created outside the promo window?

With regard to the one of gift of SC's, Qantas understands that some members will benefit more than others from this gift. However, it makes no mention of those members which will get no benefit whatsoever from this as they will have retained or have bookings in advance to retain their status prior to receiving the SC's. Anyone whose membership year renews at the end of August will get a great kickstart to their cause for retaining status the following year.......what about those members with renewal dates in the immediate following months, and i am suspecting there would be thousands, that would have achieved their goal already?? Surely for those people, myself included, should get some benefit out of this gift by having these SC's at least count towards their lifetime status so they get some benefit rather than nothing at all which is grossly unfair. Qantas has been very good in the past at segregating its loyal members by putting conditions on redemptions, promotions and gifts like this so as to make them totally worthless to some members which no doubt, leaves a foul taste in affected members mouths for being nothing more than loyal to an airline!

In my case, having already made bookings in advance to retain my status with Qantas and partner airlines, i shall receive 150 SC's some time in September, only to lose them entirely in November! Thankyou again Qantas for recognising my loyalty and teasing me with a rotting carrot! Don't bother depositing my gift at all unless it will count for something!!

Very similar. My membership year ends this month! I will barely have them before they disappear. And for the first - and probably only time - will reach gold this month. I had to book a couple of business class to do this as I was closer than have ever been. And only on a part pension now but it would have at least helped towards lifetime silver - if only could be credited after Oct 1!

I believe by default it should fail but from memory recent t&c changes means you can ask them for it iirc.

Yeah, figured it’s better to save that credit for something else and avoid the heartache.

Probably only going for DPs since I have enough SCs through to Aug 26 anyway…

Yea…this is my understanding of what a PNR is ..
PNR is basically like an envelope that’s addressed to a passenger. You can put routes and dates into the envelope, you can add/remove/modify the routes and dates that you have already put it to the envelope.

@Ade, thank you very much for this explanation. Normally I only book when I have my dates but I might take a risk and book some dummy dates far enough into the future and, hopefully, as you've pointed out, I'll be able to update it easily if it decides to re-route me through a different connecting city once the dates are known.

I'm just taking a look at the Business Sale fare and wanted to clarify: it mentions that there's a change fee of $175 - is this once per booking or per flight? I looked into the Business Flex fare and it was almost double the price. If the change fee is $175 per booking, and I can re-route it, I'll potentially go down that path and pay any fare difference.

In the (very) unlikely the flight is cheaper upon re-booking, do we get the cash already paid as credit?

I also looked into alternate options, such as booking through Flight Centre - but their change fees may be higher (I'm checking this with a contact I have there).
