Obvious answer is the hotel is blocking the traffic then. Can you randomise the phone's MAC address and see what difference that makes?

Don't worry, I have a slight security background too, so have tried some of the usual tricks

Not a big deal anyway, just wanted my pics to backup so have done manually anyway.

It's intellectually challenging to have fun with the GFoC anyway!

Slight problem, my phone has been stolen tonight. That kind of screws me, as I have no way to pay for anything.

It also means I'm kind of stuck in the city I'm in now, as I can't get to the railway station to get my next train.

I think he got sick of me ringing it at full volume and the lock means you can't power it off, so must have ditched it and someone handed it in. Someone at the police station then rang my hotel as that's what I said to do on the lock screen.

Unfortunately I've messed my trip plan up and won't make it to Huangshan now, so I'll see if there's some day trips to do from Hangzhou.
