Can I use my membership and status to make a room booking for a family member?
I won't be staying with them.

Accor is the main chain where I wouldn’t, unless you have explicitly checked in advance.
They can be real cough about no benefits until the member turns up, even if you lie and say they are coming soon.

Anyone done this recently?

My wife is going on a girl’s weekend trip to Gold Coast and I could use the status nights.
Also the Accor plus discount is pretty handy.
You could always just offer them one of your "Member for a Day" certificates (granted that won't assist you with your status nights)? Otherwise, you'll need to book in your name and contact the hotel in advance to authorise your wife to check in on your behalf. Realistically, no need to deal with front of house after that and they won't care who checks out, but some hotels are a bit thingy about sighting the actual member...

Just to add a (relatively) recent data point to this ^

Back in March, DejaBrew+1 stayed in the Mercure Parramatta on a booking that was under my name (arranged as a 2 person booking, but knew I would not be there). I contacted the hotel in advance to advise that I would be unable to make it there on check-in date due to air travel delays (which was partially correct), however DejaBrew+1 was still arriving on check-in date and could I wanted to authorise her to check in on my behalf. Hotel accommodated that request without any hassles and DejaBrew+1 stayed solo and checked out at the end without issue. Think she was asked at one point, and she just advised that I was still stuck with my return flights. YMMV though depending on the hotel in question.
