U Classic Reward - Downgraded with 24 hours notice

How hard is it to say - we will give you X,000 points as compensation? It costs them nothing.

I guess this is Qantas were talking about though.
This!

Appropriate would be we'll fully refund all costs involved (points and taxes) and you can fly for free in Y. That would take some of the sting out of it.

Business class lounge access, and presumably the other benefits such as priority check-in and baggage allowances.
Yes, the 'cabin downgrade' email states:
We recognise this is a significant change to your travel experience and would like to reassure you that you'll still be able to take advantage of any increased baggage allowance, priority boarding or lounge access that was included in your original booking, if you remain in the downgraded cabin.

If you’re a Qantas Frequent Flyer, points and status credits will be earned per your original booking. Please allow 7 days for this to be amended on your Qantas Frequent Flyer account and if not resolved you can claim your missing points online.

I will see in the morning when I present at the Dom J Lounge (with email in back pocket)

Given a cash fare gets a refund of 75% paid I don’t see why a points flight should not be the same!

Could have been worse. They could have gone the United Airlines David Dao method!
Yes indeed. However, my experience with UA has been somewhat different.

Quite a few years ago my son and I were flying SYD-LAX on a 747. We were ticketed in Y and were upgraded to J at check in. Very nice I thought. Then, when seated in J, a FA came up to me and said you've now been upgraded to F. OK, we reluctanly trudged off to F, leaving my glass of champagne behind. But it was quite amazing, being on a cheap Y ticket.

However, I do feel for those who have been bumped by Qantas, an airline without an ounce of decency in it. Just look at its response to the data breach. An apparent lot of activity, but it's basically for show, to try and get the Govt and regulators off its back. Shameful.
