Hilton has always leaned more to early check in rather than late check out, but most hotels will give you 1-2 hours complimentary. Beyond that is paid. In my time as Hilton Diamond I’ve never known any hotel to give 4+ hour late check outs, and if they did exist it would be up to the individual properties.

However I’ve had many hotel rooms ready at 8 or 9am.

Conrad Singapore gave me a complimentary 4pm checkout as Diamond last week. I initially asked for 2pm, but got stuck in meetings and used the chat feature in app to ask for an extension.

I have had 4pm checkout at quite a few Conrads
DXB, SIN and LHR off the top of my head but may be others.

I think this is a poor move by Hilton if indeed they intend on monetizing it.
Maybe that like Hyatt they are going to offer it as a paid add on in the App but zero charge for Diamond ?
Anyhoo fingers crossed it doesn’t get charged.
The only thing worse would be if they started strictly monitoring whether or not there were two registered guests in North America for the Diamond credits. But I wouldn’t want to be giving them ideas 😂

I’d say it’s just clarifying that hotels are allowed to charge for late check out and it’s not guaranteed, which has been the case as long as I’ve been staying at Hiltons. Each hotel (which are rarely owned by Hilton) have their own policies and unless it’s expressly written in the HHonors terms each hotel will do what they want.

I stayed at Hilton Times Square last week which had 11 am checkout and advertised “late checkout available for a fee”, but when I asked I was given 1pm complimentary (but could get later if I paid). I’d say this is very typical of most Hilton properties.

lol --- good by Hilton. It is called customer service to your most valued customers !!!

Hilton have been monetising upgrades for ages too.

Even checking-in on the Hilton App will often offer paid upgrades to elites. IME as a Diamond, I'll usually get some sort of complimentary upgrade unless the hotel is fully booked.

I am a platinum Bonvoy member, I usually get offered a 4pm checkout. It’s great when travelling with evening flights home. I would have to think seriously about being loyal to Marriott if they changed the late checkout option.

They were offering paid upgrades to Diamond members way back when I was diamond. And that was a long time ago.

They vary a bit depending where you’re going. I got in on a 6.30am flight into Nadi and they checked me in to the hotel as soon as I arrived.
I mostly try to organise flights etc. to arrive late mornings. I only go on holidays, I don’t have to for work. Only on the odd occasion the room won’t be ready until 3pm.

When I’ve discussed this with Hilton staff they told me late check outs come at the cost of early check ins, which is common sense.

Personally I’d take an early check in over a late check out, if I need to stay beyond check out I’m usually just happy to store luggage at the hotel whereas there’s nothing worse than a morning arrival and having to walk around the city for hours while they get your room ready.

Note that with World of Hyatt tier benefits, 2pm late check out is basically gauranteed for Discoverist and Explorist with 4pm for Globalist. But it must be requested.

While subject to availability at a few specific properties these are relatively few.
(f) 2:00 PM Late Checkout: Upon request, Discoverists will receive a 2:00 PM late checkout (local hotel time) on day of their departure at Hyatt hotels, provided that (a) late checkout is subject to availability at hotels with a casino, Hyatt resorts, and Destination by Hyatt Residences locations; and (b) late checkout is not offered at Hyatt Vacation Club properties
