Anyone have experience with either of the Bags below?

Antler Aeon Air Luggage 51cm 3.1kg
Size: 51cm x 36cm x 21 =total length 108cm

or Antler Size Zero Luggage 54cm 2.6kg
Size: 54cm x 36cm x 22cm= total =Length 112cm

I am leaning towards the Size Zero, but am a bit concerned whether it will fit lengthways into the overhead locker, given it is 54cm long and 22cm tall.

Our first trip with the new luggage will be travelling QF(A380), BA,AA and JQ, all Y or equivalent on QFF.

It appears from my research that QF have the most stringent limitations. Will they allow my wife to have a handbag as well, and if so how big.

Big question is are you travelling into US airspace? With the new rules (albeit dynamic) you may find the restrictions to be very tight. I don't think even the airlines are able to keep up with the rules, so i wouldn't rely too much on their website-stated entitlements. But if you're not flying into US airspace (although i can't see how you're not as you have a sector on AA), then i'd trust the airlines' website-stated entitlements.

Benhadi,

You are correct, part of our trip involves flights into and outof the US.

Do note that TSA has a new ruling re: 1 pice per person. A handbag is considered one piece. I'm not sure how practical this is, but as you know the events of the last week has caused many knee-jerk reactions to new TSA rules, which as i mentioned earlier is dynamic. Changes regularly. When's your trip?

Our trip is not until May 2010.
Hopefully things will have quieted down by then.

I am more concerned whether the size zero, being 54cm long will actually fit lengthwise into the overhead locker.

We have (almost) the full series of Aeon Air and I cant recommend it highly enough. We have 2 large, one medium two suit bags and two of the above carry-on size.

We have travelled all around the world with it and it is very hard wearing (now a year old including multiple MEL-BNE vv and one RTW in Y) and it still looks near-new.

In our experience (not quoting QF "guidelines", just our experience) your wife will have no troubles with the above case PLUS moderate sized handbag. We have infact done BNE-MEL vv with two of us carrying two of the above, plus two suit bags, plus wifes (large-ish) handbag. Didnt get questioned.

A tip - make sure you put it in the overhead wheels first - it'll fit fine (unless the sides are popped-out) and others can get mroe stuff in the overhead. This just fits on the 734, fits fine on the 738 and also the A330, but on the 744 and 767 lockers it'll need to go sideways in some of the lockers.

BA didnt have an issue with us carrying two of the carryons plus wife's handbag from LHR-STR, MUC-LHR and LHR-AUH (we also had checked luggage for LHR-AUH) and again the bags fitted in the overhead (just - a/c were A319, A320 and 777).

Also fitted in CX A330, and 777 lockers.

Cant help with the "size zero" though.

No they do not!

The TSA has not changed their I Bag + 1 Personal item policy (e.g. Rollabaord and lap top case).

Some airports/carriers/country have further restricted this, but it is not directly due to the TSA.

(e.g. Canada (the country) has gone the personal item only way as they do not have the resources to physically inspect all carryon)

I used a 54cm length case on my last trip to Europe; I think it was a little narrower than the one you are looking at, as it was 105cm.

QF 734
VS 346
QF 744
BA 319
FR 738(Ryanair)

Bagged fitted no worries.

On the BA 744 I had to tip it upside down with wheels in and up so that the bag would fit.

Domestic they don't check any more; its international where they check more for weight than anything else.

I stand corrected! Indeed it is Canada that's doing it, was in the news and i confused it with TSA rules.

Many thanks for all your input.

I think we will go with the Antler 54cm Size Zero, because it is half a kilo lighter, and when we frontup to the Qantas Checkin counter want to make sure we will be under 7KG each.

I asked about my wife having a handbag as we have a EEEpc we take on our overseas trips and it weighs .9 Kilos.

I'll stow it in my wife's handbag to begin with.

I do like the Antler products. Very light, seem to be quite durable and build construction is good. I think you'll be pleased.

I've got an Antler carry on that Dot recommended to me. Best money i've ever spend on a bag!:)
