Strategy to obtain US Amex

Thanks for sharing. May I ask what did you provide as proof of address pls. I also noticed that with P2's chase application, she was never able to receive text message, but with my 3rd and 4th application I was able to receive them. We are both with tello.
I used SoFi bank account - choose that one as it had lots of transactions and showed both savings and checking - my issue was that they were using the ITIN letter that was sent to broker who set up for me with their address on it as my address verification even though I uploaded bank statement - once guy sorted that I was good to go

I use Tello - never got the verification texts - last guy who helped actually called me back on Tello number - maybe ask that

I have exactly this experience with P2 for both Amex and Chase. P2 just had 1 Amex via GT a year ago then all other applications all failed or rejected or required 4506C forms which similar to rejected applications. I have no idea what else to do on P2 behalf
even failed on 2nd amex application?

Ok . I previously read using usps change of address service does away with need for id verification.
Thats fine with Chase, but would not work with c1 venture x card as its getting delivered via courier (I cant seem to change it a standard mail service).

Why do you want standard mail service ?

Can one have the first Amex sent to Australia after 10 days even in original card has not been received at friends address ? How do they identify you when you call ? Any recent data points ? TIA .

Apologies if this has already been discussed in this thread, I'm finding the 252 pages a bit overwhelming to digest.

I am about to move to the US so I am excited about getting my first US Amex.

Are there any that are a must-have for the frequent flyer community without going crazy on an annual fee?

To me, the two US Amexes that most stood out to me as a frequent traveller outside the US are:
  • Amex Green card. $150 fee / 3 MR points per $ earned on travel and restaurants worldwide / no foreign transaction fees.
  • Marriott Bonvoy Bevy Amex. $250 fee / 4 bonvoy points per $ on restaurants worldwide / 2 bonvoy points per $ general spend / Bonvoy Gold status / Bonus points and free stays / no foreign transaction fees.
I'm largely ignoring the Delta cobranded cards on the basis that I mainly travel oneworld and *A.

Thanks!

I've been living in the US now for almost 2 years so I wanted to provide an update on this. I ended up getting an Amex Gold card, which has been great. 4 MR points per $1 spent on restaurants and supermarkets, and 3 MR points per $1 spent on airline bookings directly with airlines, has been very impactful points earning.

I've really enjoyed the transfer partner options. I've transferred MR points to Qantas, AC Aeroplan and BA Avios.

The gold metal card also feels very classy, which is a nice bonus.

It is soon going to be time to leave the US. I am feeling torn about what to do with this card. The USD $325 annual fee is steep. I am deciding whether to downgrade to a green card or close the account altogether. The latter seems to make sense in terms of fees, but I'll be giving up that beautiful list of transfer partners with 1:1 ratios.

What would you do?

I just do a review of cost on my US Global Mail. For the past 1 year, the cost is $1,361.37.

How is this compared to your cost please? Am I spending too much on scanning and sending letters to myself?

I got rejected from a Chase Ink card for having too thin a credit file. I already have a Chase Sapphire and a Chase Ink card (and an Amex Blue + Gold). I'll try the reconsideration line, but anyone have any DPs on this?

only DP is that Chase is making it harder to get subsequent INK cards even for people with longer history with them, so unfortunately it doesn’t seem unique - keep going with reconsideration - read sometimes try and have reasons why you need it up sleeve (want to compliment current INK with the features that the new INK only has)
