Jetstar launches Various Routes for CNS/CHC/MCY/AKL/DUD/HZL/SYD/OOL

I agree, it’s a big ask for the Hamilton market, especially for a route like OOL, that would be wafer thin yield. I do note the comments from the NZ side saying how hard they have worked to get these routes…wasn’t easy…long talks…would indicate that Jetstar is being subsidised significantly here.

ADL-NZ would be a good option for JQ also.

The only service from ADL to NZ is by Air NZ to AKL.
IMHO any additional routes from ADL to NZ would be good and likely succeed, even if ~3 days a week.
ADL pax will going via SYD & MEL.

This is great news. I travel across the ditch frequently needing to visit the central North Island area and absolutely loathe the commute down from Auckland.

Now for the other airlines to join on so I can keep my status with Qantas/Air NZ. Though I am not hopeful this will happen.

You can earn Qantas points and status credits on these new Jetstar flights assuming you purchase an extra bundle.

First late departed quite delayed. Whoopsy.

However this route is certainly a welcome addition, the only downside is the flight time especially northbound a little late in the day, Bonza had a better schedule but better than nothing I guess.

Melbourne to Toowoomba hopefully next seems to be pending a successful negotiation however.

Gold Coast to Townsville might have legs during peak also.

Certainly a plus seeing some more regional like routes popping up.

Half expecting VA to drop this route. Low Yield market to Low Yield, then the LCC comes along and adds more seats.

I reckon VA should move it to MCY.

Expecting/Tipping this flight to be split to x3 weekly MCY and 3x weekly OOL year round instead of the varying frequencies on OOL-DPS for VA.

Would expect the MCY-DPS legs to be operated by BNE based crews if a hypothetical flight eventuates in the future.

I don't think VA will give it up too easily. They're operating it up to 8 weekly in the peak this year, with extra flights added even with JQ's added presence.

It might not seem like it, but OOL is an important piece of their Bali network with the bilateral maxed out. It adds seats into SEQ and it allows for connecting traffic to MEL & SYD which they carry a fair bit of on these flights.

Sure they could do this through MCY too, but they have the frequency at OOL to absorb these connections without impacting local traffic. OOL is also easier to crew with the number of crew they have passing through there already.

I just don't see MCY-DPS happening on VA. That route has JQ written all over it.
