It seems QF has gone through the 1998 vintage, and is now serving the much nicer 1999 vintage! ^ Going out at the end of Nov we had the 1998, coming back last weekend we had the 1999. One of the very nice chappies on my LHR-SIN said that he'd worked another SIN around the end of Nov/start of Dec and the champagne had switched to the 1999 on his return to LHR on the first of Dec.

Personally, although the 1998 was very good, I far prefer the 1999. Somehow the 98 can get a bit sharp and biting after the first few dozen of glasses, whereas the 1999 is far smoother with a CH '95-like critrusy yet Krug-like bready consistency.

They started serving the 1999 as early as 2 November (from personal experience).

Oh to have the chance to fly in QF F again...

After a flurry of QF F in 2007 it has been a long dry patch. I have my UK trip next year on which I might book QFF and try to upgrade (though I am more likely to try to fly on the A380 than fly the 744 on the chance of an F upgrade.

I can never seem to get to the end of the first dozen!:(:D

That would explain a lot - my latest tastes of Taittinger have been a lot more pleasant on the palate compared to when I had it in June (QF A380 F). OTOH on that day I was quite tired, which does not help one when trying to taste and appreciate food and drink.

Long flights will soon fix that. What's there to do on a 22 hour journey between MEL and LHR and vv but to sup extensively on the bubbly stuff - ain't it the whole point of air travel? :p That and passing out in between of course. ;)

You could sleep in the comfy bed.

Or chat with the friendly FAs - they are great conversationalists on QF, cf. CX and the like.

Or throw up - but that's not desirable. And it's also the main reason why I could never empty the champagne cellar onboard alone. I'd be lucky to polish a bottle by myself.

Indeed. I like drinking in the galley, as comfy as the bed is it gets rather creepy sitting in the dark with everyone else asleep.

But maybe I ought to rephrase my point - it'd be a shame to let all the bubbles go to waste. ;)

Can mods please delete this thread so as my whY class eyes are unable to glance upon it again...thank you for your understanding :p

Why am I am wasting my time flying WHY when I can fly First Class and drink Tattinger?

Sadly the closest i have come to F this year was the seat on a J ticket.
And next year my award travel is planned for J as F makes no sense when the number of miles is taken into account.

Yes but drinking Tattinger should be a sensible enough reason to travel F instead of J. Your loss....

Your right, for sure worth the 140k points extra per person on a OW 35k mile award. :D
Actually if there was more F routes i may consider it but with a limit to the number of segments in my plans offering F not a lot of point.

Wouldn't pay for F myself, that's what awards and points upgrades are for. :) Nice flat bed with proper duvets and mattress, and lots of yummy bubbles almost a necessity on that long a flight as lhr.

Of course, for us mere WP's travelling out of MEL and SYD, there the lesser Taittinger available in the F/L's - even when travelling WHY.

Those cheapskates need to start pouring Krug Clos du Ambonnay up the ponty end
