I tried to apply for a status match recently and they ran me in circles repeatedly asking for copy of membership card/passport/recent flights and when I sent it in again they wanted me to bring all the documents to a Turkish Airlines office (?is there even one in Australia)... Gave up

I think you're reading too much into it, they're doing the same to a lot of people requesting matches. When you submitted it, did it follow the advice myself & MattG mentioned? By submitting all possible required things in 1 go, mine was turned around and granted in only a few hours.

Yep - used that exactly as checklist, and gave them a consolidation of travel history over the last 3 years between SIN & SYD (and my TK flights) across Oneworld and Star Alliance

There are lots of reports on flyertalk of people needing at least three months of status remaining

I tried to do the match with my QR Gold. The TK customer relations team gave me the runaround and turned me down after wasting my time.

1. I sent the match request through the feedback
2. TK asked for a photo of my passport, QR membership card, and QR statement.
3. After sending the requested information, TK asked me to visit one of their sales offices to apply for the match.
4. After the visit, TK informed me that QR Gold is not equivalent to Star Alliance Gold.
5. I tried to reason with them. However, the team replied with the same canned response over and over.

Saying I was frustrated is an understatement. They should have told me at Step 3. I would happily move on without wasting more time.

Sounds like poor service from TK, but Qatar Gold is not actually eligible according to the T&Cs. If you're matching from a Oneworld airline to TK Gold, you need to have Oneworld Emerald status. QR Gold is Sapphire.

I applied using the feedback form as I couldn't do it the way in the article, and included a scan of my QFF card showing Platinum status. I received a reply almost instantly! I was asked to send the membership card again, along with evidence of flights within the last three months. As I have just returned from USA, I was able to include my round trip e-ticket. Also a copy of my activity statement showing status earned by flying. All that was posted by return feedback. Later that day I received the status match from TK. Wonderful! As I am flying return to Europe from SIN on TK (J) in September, that will give me the full year of membership. Thanks for the article. I am a happy camper! Well, happy flyer.

Now I just have to change the FF number on that September flight from SQ to TK. I am unable to do it in "manage my booking", so will ask at check in.

I am flying PER-SIN-PER on QF using classic rewards. Something else learned from AFF and used often is booking J flights from an Asian airport.

Were you eventually successful? The list of flights is under “activity”, but only shows correctly from a PC. You can open only the earning by flight activity and leave the others closed.

A follow up from my status match, which was completely successful. As I had three flights booked in J, I have now accrued 38,500SCs.. That means TK and Star Alliance Gold for two years. There are also enough points for a one-way award flight in Y from MEL to SIN. Of course I would have to get to MEL first and then home to PER! Points expire 31/12/2025. Maybe an Amazon gift card?

Actually, I’m not sure that I will be flying Star Alliance again in the next 18 months, but the process was interesting. I would definitely fly TK again between Singapore and Europe, especially at half the price of OneWorld carriers!

Reading the AFF article in this week's feed, and posts here, it seems this is not time-limited but is an open option. Is that correct? That is, we don't need to rush into this but can apply when we would be best placed to take advantage of the conditions so helpfully explained in the article.

It is an ongoing offer, and so yes, it would make sense to use this at the most ideal time for your travels.

That said, Turkish Airlines could of course alter the deal (or end status matching altogether) at any time. It doesn't owe anyone anything.

I tried to get a status match last time they offered and it was a complete waste of time.
Back and forth countless times.
I believe I gave them exactly what they wanted but they kept coming back with the same request time and time again and could not explain what the issue was.
Then they stopped communicating.
A very frustrating experience that has put me off this airline

That expiry date is on my digital card. It might be awaiting an update. Most likely it is the status credits that expire then, even if .i retain status for two years.

When I achieved the status match back in June/July, I had just joined Miles & Smiles and had no flights in my account. I did have future J flights booked though. And I had flown TK two years previously, but credited points to Kris.
