I have the choice between Novotel@200 Creek St or the Sebel and Citigate@10 Roma St.

Access to train (for daily commute to Woollongabba) & city is the primary concern.

What would you choose?

Stayed in the Sebel tower of the Sebel/Citigate a few weeks ago and was underwhelmed at $130 a night, slow lifts and old rooms made me feel like I was staying at the Rydges, not a big fan of Novotels but would have to say it would be the better of the two.

As you said access to train and city is primary concern, then more information about which part of the city may be necessary.

Novotel is closer to Central station than Sebel Citigate is to Roma St or Central.

Sebel Citigate is a lot closer to Queen St Mall than Novotel.

Been a long time since I stayed at either, but assuming no major refurbishments, would also agree with Novotel option.

The Train trip is to Park Road Station, Woolloongabba.

That said, i've already put the booking form in for the Novotel based on the above comments. ;)

Thanks all.

Sebel and Citigate@10 Roma St, used to be the Carlton Crest. Was renamed late 2006, and I think it was built in the 1960's.

Novotel has a lot more modern design and I believe built in the early 1980's.

Have never been impressed by the outside and lobby/conference room type areas of the Sebel - either when it was the Crest or now.

The only downside to the Novotel is that it's located in the quieter part of the CBD.

I have stayed at the Novotel. It is a short walk from the station (no more than 5 mins.). Very modern with good appointments, nice bar and a couple of dining options. If you are a member of the Accor program there are a couple of advantages in staying there. I feel that it is better positioned in the CBD compared to Roma St. Can't comment on the Sebel.

Stayed at Novotel early last year and the fitout, quality and location is great. Restaurant is excellent.

Stayed at Citigate King George Square later in the year and found it better. Had been recently refurbished, service, room size, amenities and location were fantastic. I would rate it better than Novotel, especially for service.

However, when I was there one of the towers hadn't been refurbished yet, which was really apparent when my wife went to take my infant son to the pool which was located in the Sebel tower.

I stayed at the Novotel from Sunday to Wednesday this week and found the hotel quite good for a Novotel. The rooms seem to be refurbished, the aircon good, however there are works being done in the lobby for the bar area which makes the temporarily combined bar/restaurant a bit condensed. I would expect these works to be finished within 2 weeks based on the current state and progress. Ate at the restaurant twice with friends and found the food average but the service appauling. I would strongly recommend you eat out.

The Novotel (not sure about your other choices) also offers 3:1 QFF points.

That's pretty much every restaurant in Brisbane.

Remember to adjust to Queensland time upon arrival (set watch back an hour and your expectations 20 years......)

I assume that park road station is near the bit of woolloongabba you want to get to. However, I would suggest that a bus from the city is a better option for getting close to the 'gabba part of woolloongabba and if that is where you need to be the sebel citigate would be the better option for getting a bus from queen st.

Novotel in the quiet part of town?. Beside that dance on the tables backpackers opposite central station, which is 5 minutes walk from the novotel.
