Hello,

Ooooooh NOT another thread about who to credit

But I have just booked myself a (leisurely) dONE4 ex-LHR commencing in July 2010 and I'd like some tips on who to credit to QF, AA or ???. The routing goes like this:-

LHR-LAX-LAS-DFW-ANC-ORD-YVR-JFK-SYD-SIN-NRT-DPS-HKG-FRA-AMM-CDG-LHR ... total of 49579miles (mm)

for breakdowns;
lhr-lax-las-dfw-anc-ord-yvr are on AA numbers
yvr-jfk is on CX
jfk-syd-sin is on QF
sin-nrt-dps is on JL
dps-hkg-fra is on CX
fra-amm-cdg is on RJ
cdg-lhr is on BA

LHR-LAX-LAS-DFW-ANC-ORD-YVR-JFK-SYD <-- July/Aug10
SYD-SIN-NRT-DPS-HKG-FRA-AMM-CDG-LHR <-- early-mid 2011

Currently I am a SG (but at this rate I will drop to PS in July 2010) and my +1 is a NB. My credit cards (Amex and CB) points gets credited towards SQ and my other ANZ QF PLT card earns 40K points per annum for QF

I am nowhere near getting any LT'anything' so it doesn't matter which program I should credit to, but rather I am looking for a program that can provide the best value / points / upgrades / redemptions in the 1-2yrs that I would have elite status.

I know its easy to just send it all to QF where I'll reach WP (my QF member year exp ends 30 June, the +1 expires in 31 March) ;) ..... should AA even be considered based on the above flights, what status would I get and what are their benefits?

I should have looked more into this but ......... you guys are the experts! Any suggestions would be appreciated :p

If you do a candy challenge starting in July 10 , you can reach AA Platinum on the LAS-DFW flight and so be earning double miles from then onwards.

You will then be platinum through to Feb 2012 ( unless u renew during 2011 )

QF will get you higher status but AA will generally get you much better redemption value over Qantas. Which would you rather have, status or value of miles?

Dave

Keep in mind you can credit different flights to different programs, if that helps you.

I got AA Plat, and enough points for a J AU-NZ award and QF Gold out of a DCIRC22 by sitting down and working out the SC's and points for each flight.

It does require more airport work though as things tend to end up with the wrong FF number no matter how hard you try.

I would suggest you start by reading up on the AA Platinum Challenge, then start a spreadsheet with all your flights and their potential earnings.

Oh, and knowing what you want out of it is probably a good start too. :)

Thanks :) So correct me if I am wrong, a QF redemption SYD-LHR is 128K QF points ....... whereas on AA, a SYD to Europe is 60K AA points? That's a no brainer in that instance.

And then a multi city fare up to 35K miles is 280K on QF, and 190K on AA?

Thanks chrisb , am doing a spreadsheet now ;)

You have it quite corrrect. Not only is it 60k business / 80k 1st to Europe , there are no fuel fines to pay either. It would seem a no brainer to me to take the candy ; the additional benefits of emerald over sapphire arnt worth huge amounts imo
