I just made two separate QF bookings online for September. MEL-AKL, and AKL-MEL a few days later.

For MEL-AKL, I got the message 'Silver FFs may be eligible for 2054 points for this trip' (probably not the exact wording), and when the booking was complete, I had a seat allocation (which I then changed online under MMB) - all ok.

For AKL-MEL I didn't get that message (can't recall if I got one saying 1643 points, or no msg at all ), and no seat allocation. When I went into MMB OLSS I got the 'domestic' choice, aisle or window, clicked aisle and 'enter' and got an error message anyway saying seat selection did not work.

C/M/T shows no seat allocation.

I can call Qantas and get a seat but has anyone experienced this? Might it just be taking time? Maybe because it's QF26 originating in LAX? Because it was booked via South Pacific site? Any other reason?

Thanks

Is it late September? Loadings can be v. high due to school holidays and possibly the flight is already OS ...

Sep 21 - not sure what EF might reveal?

PS. Seatcounter shows O7 and pretty much all other economy as 9

Forget it!

Just looking at J and Y seat maps for this flight on E/F and see the following:
Seating has been suspended for this flight.

I have never seen that on E/F before!

Further queries show the same for this flight on 18th, 19th, 20th, (your) 21st & 23rd as well as a random date on Oct.

I think it's being blocked deliberatly.

Note that QF26 does not run every day AKL-MEL, there's the occasional QF156 with the same timings instead. I can get a seat map for that one.

Thanks for the info serfty! Is QF beating Ryanair to the punch and having standing room flights?

Being serious, I'm sorta glad it's not just me! Hopefully a 'glitch'...I'll monitor it tonight, and if no change will call tonight or tomorrow morning to see if I can find out what is going on.

Maybe there is an equipment change in the offing?

Well I rang QF this morning, and the agent there had no more luck/access than me! She could only speculate along the lines we have already done here (maybe an equipment change is coming).

So I'll just have to monitor the situation...and if it doesn't change, then be among the first to check in! :)

I just want to tell of the mess we encountered on our return flight from London 2 days ago. We have platinum status with Qantas and were given lousy seats j-class across to London; after noticing we had the same seats on return I asked if this can be improved. On boarding we found we had even worse seats, and in the preferred window/aisle next to us, were a 4-year old and his 7-year old brother. His mother was on the other side of the cabin. In front of us was a 3-year old and his mother was in the next cabin. Total chaos ensued which was eventually sorted out by the passengers (crew were in a flap) and we ended up in our preferred seats and the mother in a row of three - HER preference. The other guy in our row, was happily, accommodating.

I wondered why this seems to be happening more and more and why we are suddenly getting lousy seating and not our preferences any more. It occurred to me that online pre=seating is probably the reason. Obviously the best seats are snapped up early and everyone has to be be fitted into the remains. A business person usually books a flight a few days before going, and although flies often, will end up with the worst seat. Our situation. And a mother with kids will end up being split. I think this online seat-choice is causing a lot of headaches - inevitably.

I was just on the qflyer (unofficial) QF fleet site, and noticed that according to it Jetconnect have 2 x 737-800 (AVOD equipped) listed for delivery in Sep 2009 (and another in Oct 2009).

Any chance that seating for my flight as detailed in the OP is currently unavailable because they plan to have one of these new a/c do this flight? Seems unlikely because its already listed as a 738, but the config (according to qflyer) is 'TBA' - perhaps a slightly different config may apply?

Then again, probably just wishful thinking...

Sorry to revive an oldish thread, but I checked today via seatcounter and my flight (QF26, 21 Sep) is now completely zeroed out, and (logically, I guess) does not even show when looking to purchase tickets AKL-MEL that day.

And there has been an equipment change from 738 to 733 (how often do they fly AKL-MEL)?

I'm sure this has all happened before, but not any flight I've been on.

In peoples' experience, is this likely to be as it seems, or might it indicate something else?

I find it curious that seating was unable to be selected even when the flight was way open - perhaps they were expecting to change equipment all along?

I believe the problem is the QF26 Morphs from a 744 to a 737 at AKL and I don't believe the OLSS can handle that for through bookings.

The 733's (ZK-JND, ZK-JNN and ZK-JNC) are due to be retired mid October.
