Property: Sebel Coolangatta
Status: Accor Plat +
Room booked: Standard Double
Room upgraded/type: Room not ready on arrival so was given room on the second floor which I took because it was midday and convenient to check in. No acknowledgement of membership.
Rate: $205pn
Free internet : yes
Free Breakfast: it came with the rate but I would have had breakfast anyway
Early check in/late out: Neither requested but as mentioned checked in at midday.
Welcome drink: no
Welcome gift: nothing not even water in the room. Not even cups in the room just by the way.
Phoned reception and asked for cups to be sent up and housekeeping arrived to show me where the cups were as apparently I needed help finding them. There were no cups in the room, so they had to leave and brought us back four mugs.
I went to reception in the morning to ask about some water for the room and they seemed surprised. I mentioned it was strange that there was no welcome note or anything in the room. Said they would make sure the welcome gift was sent up to me and water....still waiting. Two nights there. Room itself was very comfortable, beds lovely, and shower was powerful. Breakfast buffet was average. They had a fresh egg station with a lovely chef. Charge for Barista coffee. I would go back if the rate was right... ie similar to the above or less. Will add photos later as I cannot seem to shrink them on my phone and they won't upload as too large 😀

When you check in at an Accor property you need to pay attention at what key they give you. If it's a generic brand key (i.e. Ibis) that means the check in agent hasn't gotten the memo that you are VIP. You need to tell them that the manager said they put something aside for you since you're Accor+Platinum. The agent will look and hopefully notice the envelope with your name on it containing the various goodies (and hopefully a better room too!).

In general you should see an An Accor ALL sleeve for your key.

Is beer noted as a preference in your profile perhaps?

I’m 100% strike rate for wine (inc sparkling) from ~25 stays at that property.

Property: Mercure Mildura
Status: Accor Plus Diamond
Room booked: Standard Room 1 Queen Bed
Room upgraded/type: Yes, 2 bedroom apartment
Rate: Accor Plus Saver, $142/night
Free internet: Yes
Free Breakfast: No
Early check in/late out: N/A
Welcome drink: Nothing
Welcome gift: Nothing

Work in Mildura for two days so decided to stay here. Room was comfy enough and upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment which was handy as it had a kitchenette plus full laundry. Rooms showing a bit of wear and tear but bed was comfortable and multiple split system air cons kept the temperature in my range.
Disappointingly status recognition was close to zero. Yes I got a 3 level room upgrade but at check in didn’t get the usual greeting or acknowledgment, no welcome drinks and no gift.
Property doesn’t do breakfast but that’s ok as I had to be at our facility early and was able to grab a coffee at a cafe. On checkout no recognition again. I await to see if the points drop or not now.

Property: Mercure Edinburgh Princes St

Room booked: "Privilege" room with view of castle

Status: platinum

Room upgraded/type: no

Rate: flexible

Free internet: Yes

Welcome drink: Yes 1 drink voucher and 2 small glass bottles of water

Early check in: yes at 12.30pm but only when I said I would sit in the lobby and sleep until they got me a room because I was just off a 32 hour journey 😜

VIP treatment: no

Access to executive lounge (if existing): no lounge

Reading what @RooFlyer got in his room in Sydney makes me well jell 😜 Nothing like that at this property!

The views from the room were lovely. Princes St is very noisy with traffic during the day. There are some loose metal plates in the road (permanent feature) and every time a heavy vehicle goes over them there is a loud double clunk. I mean really loud. Luckily much less traffic at night so it didn't keep me awake.

It is an older building that used to be called the Mountroyal Hotel which is still carved in stone on the facade. My room was on the 6th floor (of 7). It was stiflingly hot and I couldn't work out where from as the radiator did not seem to be on. Also outside it was 10 degrees or less yet I found myself opening the window and 'balcony' door just for fresh air to get the temperature down but that increased the noise level significantly. It's not really a balcony but a narrow space running across the front of 5 rooms where you can stand outside and look at the views. Equally you could take a look in at the occupants of the other rooms if you chose to. Anyway if a north facing view made the room this hot in April I hate to think what July would be like. There was no aircon but a small fan in the room.

The bathroom was I would say 1980s with one of those irritating noisy fans connected to the light switch that keeps on whirring for ages after you turn the light off. A narrow shub, with affectionate shower curtain and quite a step up to get in, with this lovely gleaming handrail right where you would expect - only watch out, it's not a handrail it's a superheated towel rail 😲 Keeping the bathroom door shut kept the room temp down quite a lot! But I wonder how many people burn themselves. A lot I would not be surprised.

The restaurant wasn't too bad, with lovely staff and views, but the sort of food that made you suspect that the 'chef' had defrosted and plated a microwave ready meal. If I hadn't had terrible jet lag I would have found somewhere better to eat. There's a really nice little place called Society up the Calton Hill end of Princes St but they're not open for dinners atm, only breakfast and lunch.

There's a sign in the room that says put this on the door if you don't want your room cleaned and we will give you 100 points per day. I didn't put the sign on the door, and I still didn't get my room cleaned. Then on my last day I took my larger bag down to reception for them to keep it during the day and went back to the room for a final freshen up only to find housekeeping already in there as if I'd checked out! Despite the fact that I'd left stuff all over the bed!

No fridge or minibar in the room, but there were robes and slippers. The bed was comfortable.

Would I stay again - well probably not unless there was nowhere else suitable. There's an Indigo further down Princes St that I might try next time, or the Radisson over in the Old Town. (Have stayed at Hilton before when I was diamond and was peeved by the tiny cupboard they gave me to sleep in).

Property: Hotel Cerretani Firenze, MGallery
Status: Accor Plus Platinum
Room booked: Superior Queen
Room upgraded/type: Junior Suite
Rate: Advance saver - 280 EUR
Free internet: Yes but voucher codes with 10mbps cap and max two device activations
Free Breakfast: No (as expected)
Early check in/late out: 11:30am check in, 1:30pm checkout
Welcome drink: Two drink vouchers
Welcome gift: Box of Florentine biscotti

We hadn't expected the early check-in, but really appreciated it after a stressful morning dealing with cancelled and delayed intercity trains (derailment elsewhere in the network)

The front desk didn't mention an upgrade at check in, but once I saw the room I knew it was better than what I'd booked. Waiting in the room was a box of biscotti which will make a nice souvenir. The room also had fully openable windows and the top of the Cathedral could be seen if craning your neck around to the right.

The Cerretani room photos are very generic so I couldn't work out which category room it was until I received the folio on checkout that I saw it was a junior suite.

The hotel has a few different wings, this room was tucked away at the back of the hotel sharing the floor with only one other room.

Hotel is in a terrific location, just 5 min walk from the intercity train station, 2 minutes to Santa Maria Cathedrale, 5 min to the Central Market, etc.

My only real complaint is that the lobby absolutely stinks of sewage. Possibly an ongoing issue, a few Tripadvisor reviews mention it too. It's made worse by no fewer than a dozen perfume diffusers scattered around the same space to cover the smell, which just makes it worse with a headache inducing aroma. Luckily this was limited to the ground floor reception area, and it was not noticeable at all from our room, but it was bad enough that we'd hold our breath each time walking in or out of the hotel and we'd avoid spending any time on the ground floor.

Property: ibis Luzern Kriens
Status: Accor Plus Platinum
Room booked : ROOM WITH 1 DOUBLE BED (63X79 INCHES [160X200 C M]), NEW SLEEP-EASY CONCEPT
Room upgraded: Room with 1 double bed (160 x 200 cm) new sleep comfort, view of Pilatus (corner room)
Rate: STAY LONGER AND SAVE - 4S, ROOM ONLY - ~90.44 CHF/night
Free internet: Yes (decent speed)
Welcome drink: Yes - 1 voucher
Welcome Gift: No
Early/Late checkout: Denied early check-in, late check-out N/A

Arrived early into Luzern and tried checking in at noon. The clerk checked my reservation called his manager and after some back and forth with them told me that wasn't possible and that I should instead check-in at 3 PM. Fortunately the clerk gladly accepted the luggage I had which allowed me to do some exploring around Luzern. When I got back around 7 PM and checked in there were no problems, and I was glad to have waited:

Since this hotel is outside Asia Pacific, there was no free breakfast offered (I was offered the ability to add breakfast on for 15 CHF/night which IMHO isn't worth it). I was given one drink voucher which could be used for house wine (ibis brand), Swiss beer, or a non-alcoholic drink. I went for the Swiss beer:

In terms of location it's not too far from Luzern about a 4 minute train ride on the S4 from Luzern HB followed by a 10 minute walk to the hotel. This hotel also isn't a bad location if you plan on exploring Mount Pilatus which is a short bus ride from the hotel (followed by the lovely funicular rides up to the top). Would I stay here again? Probably, supposing the price is right. Whilst I didn't get a fancy welcome gift or anything like that getting upgraded to the corner suite on the top floor is about as good a welcome gift as you can hope (and at this point I've received enough bottles of plonk from Accor to fill my wine cellar for some time).

Status: Gold
Room booked: Superior queen
Room upgraded/type: no
Rate: flex
Free internet: Yes
Free Breakfast: yes
Early check in/late out: didn't ask
Welcome drink: Yes, one voucher. Girl behind the bar was unsure what sparkling wine was so I ended up with a mediocre red 🤦🏻‍♀️
Welcome gift / amenity: fruit platter and water bottle. However this seems to be part of my 'guest of the day' status which was rather hilarious. It got me free breakfast, free parking, free minibar (which was the water bottle and fruit platter) and free internet. On pulling into the carpark I found a sign declaring a particular spot reserved for me 😂

Free Breakfast: With the room rate, but as above, was free
Early check in/late out: Arrived 6pm. My room had 12pm checkout but not required.

Welcome gift / amenity: Welcome note from manager acknowledging status and upgrade. Full bottle of Cab Sav, full bottle of still Tassie spring water; 2 bottles of soft drink, and two packs of 2 choc chip cookies. My room only.
Exec lounge access: N/A

Just a one night stay but was very impressed with the hotel. Staff so friendly. Excellent a la carte breakfast. Free parking. Large rooms and a decent upgrade for my room. Had asked for specific bed configurations (confirmed 48 hours beforehand by the hotel) so was not expecting any upgrades. Wine, water, cookies an unexpected bonus. I knew the bar was closed the night we stayed but was also pleased that the drink vouchers could still be used.

Used to be a hospital and one member of our travelling party had her tonsils out there!
