From news.com.au:

BARS, pubs, and taverns of the world can hold as much history as any museum and present as much drama as any theatre.

Members and editors of travel website VirtualTourist.com have come up with a list of the world's 10 most legendary bars.

So who has visited any of these bars? The list is:

1. Harry's Bar; Venice, Italy
2. The Blind Beggar; London, England
3. White Horse Tavern; New York City, New York
4. Garota de Ipanema; Rio de Janerio, Brazil
5. The Pub; Valletta, Malta
6. Heinolds' First and Last Chance Bar; Oakland, California
7. Long Bar; Raffles Hotel, Singapore
8. The Eagle and Child; Oxford, England
9. Bell-in-Hand Tavern; Boston, Massachusetts
10. Fink's; Jerusalem, Israel

I am 0/10 from that list.

1/10 with Long Bar as well.

Don't see how they left Jimmy'z in Monaco or Skybar in Bangkok off the list

Only 1/10 for me...

Ditto. I've only been to the Long Bar at Raffles. I bet the author of the article had never been to the Lala Rookh on City Road opposite Sydney University

I can't believe that Claridge's Bar isn't on the list (the best range of Champers in London, as far as I'm concerned, and the best Manhattans east of Manhattan!).

Bar 228 at Le Meurice in Paris? William the bartender has been there for 29 years, and he's a genius.

1/10 here. Same as everyone else - Long Bar, Raffles.

NIGELINOZ - When were you last in Sydney? Jacksons is pretty much considered a dive these days...has been for years. ;)

Cheers,
- Febs.

I spend a fair bit of time there but I admit that I have not been to Jacksons for about 2 years, the last time I was there it was great, shame to hear it's gone downhill.

Despite (or perhaps because of) a number of years resident in Singapore I'm 0/10 also!

Ah well, there's a challenge!

I am 0 for 10. No surprises really as I have never heard of any of those bars/pubs and if they had a top 100 bars/pubs list I would more than likely be 0 for 100....

3. White Horse Tavern; New York City, New York
7. Long Bar; Raffles Hotel, Singapore
9. Bell-in-Hand Tavern; Boston, Massachusetts

30% - not bad. :D

I disagree that some of these are in any way legendary however...

Now who is going to volunteer to take it upon themselves to visit them all and then rank them from 1 to 10 :?:

Wasnt really fussed by either. For me it was the Auki Club in 1969 complete with punkah wallah-Solomon islands version.
