CX and QR flights disappeared from MBB on OWA RTW classic rewards booking. Need urgent advice please!!

So some pretty bad news.. CX has rejected the request to reinstate our seats and there are currently no alterative reward flights available to get from SYD to JFK.

Best we could do with our status was get onto a Cape Town supervisor. We then requested for Qantas to open up a reward seat from SYD to DFW, which she said they couldnt do and wasn't their obligation lol. I told them they def could and she then sent an email to try and get it done but said it was unlikely.

What should be my next move?? Starting to think the itinerary is destroyed and our thousands in non refundables are lost :(

I don't have any suggestions in getting Qantas to make things right but I think the worst case is that you may have to buy flights on cash so that you can still use your non refundables. Not ideal but all is not lost.

They will 100% open a DFW or LAX seat if a paid seat is available. You just need to reach the right person. Getting from either to JFK is another problem.

The other option is goto LHR on Qantas and then into JFK

The SA call center is unless. Do they even provide any training?

I also have the same issue as you but my flights on the 7th June. Australia to New York

I have sent a number of emails to Qantas over the weekend so let’s see if that gets anything moving

I also contacted my credit card insurance company to see if I could potentially make a claim for a paid ticket since it was a Qantas ticketing issue

How did you find you got them to do it? At this point we'd be happy to go in economy but just need it to be an award seat.

Is the staff able to do it on the spot or did they tell you that they sent an email through too?

I know right, and my concern is that I wont be able to reach a competent call centre to open it up for me.

I feel for you, know exactly what it's like but yours would defs be stressful being so close. Ill look into my CC insurance too!

Would you mind providing me with some useful emails?

This is how I do it.
Go through the normal cough when they say no seats available. Then say can you put me on SYD-LAX/DFW (check and make sure paid tickets available first). They might be hesitant and say I can’t do that.
Say I know you can do it as I’ve had it done before. Tell them to release a seat and tell them paid seats are available.

They will pop you on hold then get I released.

Just keep trying

Got through to SA and Fiji since this and theyve both said they they would be able to if it was just points but because its a classic rewards they have to wait for an email back from the department theyve sent one to to request to open up our seat..

Sounds like a very different experience to yours. Tried pushing both to open it on the spot and they said all they can do is wait for the response first.

Keep pushing you think?

Can you call Monday during business hours and try the same thing?

Just an update

Apparently QF have advised that they can’t force book anymore under a new OneWorld policy

Apparently this is a recent policy

I believe this makes converting paid seats to OneWorld rewards significantly more difficult if not impossible now

Was fortunate enough to get Hobart on a call this morning and the agent all but basically said that. He said they can't do it themselves anymore and that my chances were slim to none. He also said CX has completely halted their routes through HKG and that the flight I had is cancelled so in the end Qantas can claim it wasnt their fault.

Have a JAL flight back home on my booking. Guy was brutally honest, said if Japan dont open to tourists by then that JAL my drop flights and I coulda been stuck in the same situation but mid way through the trip (yikes).

Said I had to look into what I valued more, the trip itself or the flight redemptions because in reality only options now are to go in economy for the long haul legs. Would end up more effecient to just make it a RTW OWA in economy (sad) or to cancel the trip.

Because Ive got non refundables and minds already been set on being OS in 2 months I think were going to just go in economy and book another simple business itenerary another time. An easy QR and EK booking to Europe or something. Too scarred by this experience to try and book another RTW trip again lol.

I’m also hearing the same from AKL agent I spoke to

The other big issue is that SA and Fiji agents are not ticketing these flights correctly or at all

The only difference I have is that my initial booking was a QF flight from Australia to Tokyo (onward to JFK) which set the whole rebooking and cancellations chain off

I wouldn’t be too concerned if a JAL flight was canceled mid way through my trip as long as I had decent insurance cover

They may have done that in the past but I had a recent experience with some flights that got changed and 20 calls later and numerous requests for seats to be released I kept being told no and the 'department' they always call kept saying no. Only obligation they have is to refund.

Gives me ZERO confidence to ever book a partner award with them again and as such cancelled my QF credit card.

I feel your pain and the thought has crossed my mind but I have 3 million points I need to burn first
I feel everyones pain too, can see a large number of members have been impacted by the CX and JAL involved route.

Are you still going ahead with your trip in economy or canning it?
