SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I am really struggling to get 4 x F/R seats MEL-SIN-FRA mid December.

While the website shows MEL having 4 x 777s daily, can only book F on SQ228 and on several days a seat or two is taken so I can't book.

Then even getting 4 x R SIN-FRA is hard as 2-3 seats are booked on lots of mid December flights as well :(

Coming home in Late Jan is OK

But wow this is very frustrating :(

Hi, any comments on J headphones provided - esp w’ regard to noise cancelling. Specifically on EWR - SIN?

(The F / R Bang and Olufsen are fine and there are little disposable covers they provide. (My Bose are heavy)).
Thanks

The headphones in J are fine. I prefer my Bose QC 35 ii but they are not compatible with SQ IFE (volume too weak).

I wouldn’t risk booking anything but SQ228 Ex-MEL this year. Seems the other planned B777s might stay downgraded A350s.

Did you check Ex-SYD? Booking 4/4 or 4/6 seats is never going to be easy, need some good luck there 🍀

Agree - SQ228 is the only safe bet so far !

SYD - Yes thinking we may go this way get Suites and a few extra seats to pick from, but with 2 youngish kids it's a bit of a trek....

Has anyone completed a feedback form with SQ in the past few weeks and had a response (besides the auto-reply from [email protected])?

I sent a complaint using the webform on 5 May, and am yet to hear anything, also wondering if there's a specific number to follow up on?

Not unusual. however they have replied to complaints with the longest time about 8 days.
The online form asking for something to be done though is absolutely useless. coming up to 3 months from the first I submitted and no reply other than automated to any of them.

Called SQ this morning to change my redemption booking, call went through in 4 mins, longest bit was waiting for the agent to process the booking change (date and route) and fare difference (taxes) which took about 45 mins. I have changed this particular booking 3 times already, so that's apparently what is giving their system grief and they are having to process the changes "manually". Although I suspect when I was put on hold when they were making the changes the same agent was probably switching between other customers which made my wait time longer. Overall, not complaining given others have spent far longer on hold trying to just get through to SQ.

Has anyone flown suites SYD-SIN recently ? Trip report please!
I am doing this trip later in the year. SIN is my final destination. Are you allowed to use TPR on arrival? Presuming it has opened.

Yes TPR access on arr for all SQ R and F pax. What kind of report are you after? Apart from all cabin crews still wearing masks R and F product basically same as pre-Covid less hard copy menus and magazines.

I am flying R ex SYD next week but doubt I will be doing serious report - I did a full report MEL-SIN-FRA F/R back 1st week Apr Long Overdue - SQ F/R MEL-SIN-FRA

Will be interested in your opinion of the SYD lounge vs MEL lounge. It has a view but the food offering was not quite as good as MEL, but it was dominated by seafood which wasn’t great for me, so maybe I’m just biased. But also they don’t even have ice cream

I think the beverages were similar.

The view holds zero interest for me - I enjoy being onboard not looking at them from outside. I have flown out of SYD a number of times - I have never viewed the lounge there as superior to MEL but others hold a totally diff view - knowing the MEL Lounge Manager and staff so well* I always get preferential treatment so my views are always going to be coloured

* I knew all staff pre-Covid but all have now moved on so we will have to re-build those relationships - Lounge Manager still there though. China just cannot open up quick enough.

Thanks! Great to know the product hasn't suffered post-Covid. Was wondering whether food and beverage offerings had suffered.

seems there is serious demand in Sep - I'm flying BNE -SIN - LHR (booked start of April) in Y and due to some factors my wife was not coming, but those things cleared up so we looked at booking her on the same flights as me. all that's available is economy flexi at $3200 return - i got bottom of barrel economy, and a room in London for $2500 so prices have shot up

This is an interesting observation...I use QC 35 II headphones and have never noticed a problem with any of the SQ systems, whether it's the Panasonic or the Thales (only on the A359 Medium haul). Have you tried adjusting your volume settings in the Bose app?

Customer Affairs is totally overwhelmed by the unprecedented barrage of complaints. They are also lacking the resourcing they once had. I'm still waiting for a response several months down the road, though it's not a time-critical matter.

I prefer the SYD lounge over MEL and think the food is probably a bit better in SYD, but of course to personal taste and the day you happen to be there. Food is pretty good overall in the F section. What irritates me is the liquid turps they're pouring. There's been a sharp decline in wine quality.

I'll miss the old crew too, but there is a very nice young lady who has been at the front desk for the last couple of trips, unfortunately I can't recall her name but we've started to build rapport.

In my view things have suffered, but I think things are better in F/R than in J where they're cutting costs mercilessly. F is probably back to 90%, whereas J in my view is at about 65-70%.
