Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

But you ignore facts that don't suit your argument. This is blatantly misrepresenting what I have said.
Except that you have recently been arguing on multiple threads against people getting boosters (which is their choice if they want one) and recommendaing against kids getting the jab so definite anti-vax more so than anti mandate and funny because you yourself are tripple vaxed.

As for boosters I have argued about the timing. There is very little evidence that a 4th shot prevents infection or reinfection. I have posted links to studies that show this.
Yes it is good for preventing serious infection but then after 2 doses that protection against severe infection lasts a lot longer than protection against any infection. Therefore there is a case for arguing the timing of boosters.
As for children under 5 the phase 3 studies did not reach a significant conclusion. Moderna was slightly better than Pfizer but still only reduced symptomatic disease by 40%. When vaccines were first being tested on adults it was stated at the onset by the FDA that effectiveness should be 50% or more. This is why a covid vaccine for under 5s has not yet been given even Emergency authorisation.
On top of that there is an extra risk in the under 5s. Fever is a relatively side effect of the vaccines. In a young child that could lead to febrile convulsions -a not insignificant risk.

So if you are advocating vaccination for the under 5s you are the one out on a limb ignoring the studies.

I have never mentioned vacicnations for under 5s, so please stop attributing such things to me.

There are however approved vaccines for school age children and I have observed that the level of vaccination has stalled well short of the adult population, making schools perfect place to introduce covid into households.

Whilst you choose to focus on infection. I have stated time and time again the main benefit for me is (and as was always meant to be when the search for a vaccine options began) to protect against major illness, something being achieved. As you well know from personal experience, getting covid as a vaccinated person isnt stopping you from enjoying your holiday.

My argument for being pro vax has naught to do with infection, so your constant harping on how vaccination isnt stopping infection is not at all relevant to my posts. Being vaccinated and in general good health Im not particularly worried if I get covid. However access to hospital services for other reasons is better assured when as many people as possible are vaccinated agianst covid to restrict the number of admissions due to covid (as opposed for other reasons with a mild dse of covid).

You dont agree with me and Im ok with that, but you are the one blatantly misrepresenting what I have said, so I will correct the record.

OMG just dropped into this thread after quite some time away from it for probably 3-4 months. Feel like I’m doing Groundhog Day. Same people arguing the same things as they were last time I visited. And the time before. And the time before that.

Who even talks about covid anymore in the real world with this level of passion..... I work in health and its just part of the job now - it is like whatever, like the upcoming flu season, like a nasty ulcer spreading in Melbourne, like a concentrated STI outbreak in Sydney etc etc

Amazing this thread is still going on!

Almost nostalgic. What time is Gladys on?

Probably time to recognise that by now peoples views are entrenched and no trotting out the same points for the 108th time is going to change them.! 🤣

Or have bots taken over several accounts and just putting in stock standard posts consistent with previous ones?

You’re correct, of course. And the fact they we’re still hearing “stop the spread”, “flatten the curve” and “let it rip” says a lot. The mental health of some has really taken a battering over the last few years.

It may be "just part of the job" but it's a painful part of the job. So many things are being affected by "got Covid". When you talk to those who got it, at the worst they were sick for two days but some didn't even know apart from test results.
It's excellent that we are taking such care with everyone's health but if this is the path we are going down, it needs to be extended to a lot more than Covid. Perhaps we should have a general campaign (and publicly funded sick leave), so that everyone who is unwell stays at home?

After 26 months, I made the surprisingly liberating move of unfollowing ALL official health updates and channels. This thread should probably follow! Updates on covid cases and such are not helpful to anyone that I can think of; health departments and officials aside.

I’m triple vaxxed and have also had, and [quickly] recovered from the virus. I played my part religiously throughout the pandemic, often to excess, and in the interest of protecting myself, my family and others, but it’s time now that we move on. Those closest to me wholeheartedly agree.

There’s been some terrible outcomes since early 2020… most evident in places other than Australia, but I feel it’s clear we’re past the worst of this, and I’m with those getting on with a life worth living.

Cheers,
Matt.

I’m with Matt.
It is now another health illness/condition that we all live.
We don’t post daily stats for influenza, STDs, gastro outbreaks, etc.

Correct. Get the population virtually fully vaccinated, get the mortality rate to zero and then we’re done. We’ve achieved that. Great work Australia!
You'll no doubt be thrilled to know that I've just joined the ranks of the infected. I guess taking 9 domestic flights last week might have had something to do with it.

Remains to be seen how Australia's great work pans out (with me at least).

So far just a sore throat and head cold type symptoms, but I am quad vaxxed...

Tas removing density limits from Friday. I wasn't aware they were still in place, except for a few high profile/big # events.

Interestingly, also said that an announcement re mask-wearing in high risk areas to come. If they do drop the mandate, I'd expect (hope) hospitals, nursing homes and pharmacies at least to keep masks as a condition of entry. I always hated waiting in the doctor's waiting room in cold & flu season before - highest chance of picking something up!

You can ask reception to call you when your appointment is ready and wait outside / in car. We do it in all our clinics. About 10-15% of people take the offer up. Most people don’t care

Why would I be “thrilled”?

Just wear your mask in the surgery etc, irrespective of what others are doing.
