Strategy to obtain US Amex

Oh I meant on myUS. Looks like since you have done it with Shipito, and I havent tried that service before.

Sorry if I'm a bit dull, what happens when you change your address on MyUS? That wouldn't change where your item would be shipped to right?

Edit: Does anyone know if MR points (without plat) can be transferred to the US counter part? I was thinking about cancelling my Platinum AU card and opt for the Edge given the expenditure categories.

The other post was probably referring to perhaps changing the address where MyUS will re-direct your mail from their premises at Express Lane, Sarasota. Anyway, you are not using MyUS are you?

Yes . Can transfer internationally once in 12 Months .

Done a quick scan through the thread and a search using a few key words but couldn't find what i was looking for .....

I notice that people have, on occasion, sought multiple US cards following their first Global Transfer

Has anybody sought a second card using GT but from a different country to the first GT - if so, how long between requests?

I have used GT to get the Hilton Aspire but now thinking of reverting to my original plan of getting a BA Avios UK Amex

Any experience with this from anybody?
Yes gt from Uk approx a year after gt from Aus .

I guess since you got your FICO, u have held ur Aspire for more than 6 months. You can apply online or over the phone. I applied for my Mrs over the phone (she does not have a ITIN nor SSN). Her Green card was approved. I would recommend doing it over the phone since you already have a US credit card and the US Amex Sales team would be more than happy to get you one. As part of the process someone from the credit team needed to approve her application after the application was processed by the Sales Rep. Which was just a formality as she was asked for her name/DOB and Address.
Just wondering what number did you call to apply over the phone? Did a Google and also looked at Contact Us details in my Amex account but couldn’t find anything.

And is it possible to make use of a referral promotion when applying over the phone (I.e. the 90k Gold card promo) or only via the link online?

Have you tried 877-621-2639. Global Transfer team
6am-2am ET/7 days a week

Thanks.

I was more wondering GT from Aus to US

Then

GT from Aus to UK

Doable? 12mths??
Yes u can transfer once every 12 months from Oz to us. As long as u have a charge card in the Us. I think u cannot transfer DJ MR Points but the rest u can. I transferred Oz Amex Plat Charge to US Green card

Just a data point - I requested a new replacement card the day the original card was delivered. No issues and they didnt need to wait 10 days. Next day delivery to Alaska!

Sorry to ask, but I have read through the posts and am still struggling to find out the solution. I have just applied GT from Aus to US for the Hilton Aspire card. For some reasons my Equifax credit file could not be accessed online then I got the email that Amex need additional information. I called Amex and provided my passport details. Amex advised that there is no issue with the credit rating but they need my address verification to finalise the approval. Two options were provided, one is to do 3 ways call or the other is to upload documents. I chose to upload documents on the call because i do not have US bank account. I assume this is the last step before approval. I have used my friend's US address and do not have US bank account, would there be any way to obtain a US bank account and get a bank statement from Australia? thanks in advance

What document did they want you to upload? Is it bank statement with the US address on it?

I did 3 ways call for my card and they called my bank straight away while I was on the call with them. I think you can only open a US bank account in the US and us your friend address or try to go with HSBC premier in Australia and once you got the bank account you can change the address to the US one and have to statement sent to there.

But you presumably do not have a US credit score, anyway. This is a GT, where a US credit rating is irrelevant.

I’m mystified about your situation. The credit score has no part of GT. GT is based solely on your relationship with Amex Australia.

Would you know of anything that may have triggered this further enquiry? The reason that I ask is that I have successfully applied for three Amex Hilton cards, on-line, over a period of two years, and have not encountered a need to provide anything outside of the requirements of the on-line application.

Thanks. I assume this should be bank statement with US address. I chose to upload the document and he said I will get an email, but I still have not received any email.

I think it was triggered because when it was linked to Nova credit for my Australian credit history, I think I entered the info incorrectly then it could not access my passport/licence. Then I got the email that I need to provide additional information. I provided the passport details on the call, then he said I need to provide the proof of address.

In this case would it be better if I request to cancel the application and re-apply? Or should I wait for 2 months?

If they required proof of address and you don’t have the statement or utilities bills, they will be likely decline the application. Or they will send a letter to this address and you just need to follow the instructions in the letter to do address verification.

Sorry to hear that it went this way for you. I have only ever provided my passport details and not a driver’s licence in on-line applications for what it’s worth.

Hopefully others may have found a way through this.

Did you have an existing Amex they used to identify you ?

Been on the Amex US fraud protection rollercoaster over the past week after a booking I attempted to make with a major airline (in AUD) was flagged - I wanted to document in case anyone else ends up in the same position.

SafeKey failed on the transaction with a generic error, I thought it might have been a temporary issue with the SafeKey system and was going to try again the next day. When I woke up the following morning I found a pre-recorded voicemail message from Amex asking me to call them about a potentially fraudulent transaction.

No problem, these calls are a walk in the park I thought, usually just a "yes, that was me trying to make the purchase, please remove the block" - but this call was very different. I was unprepared for the barrage of questions and concerns from the rep - what was my reference number, social security number, phone number, street address, etc. ("I'm sorry the line is breaking up, could you please repeat that" came in very handy as I frantically searched for the MyUS and TextNow welcome emails..)

I hit a variety of obstacles on the call:

1. the voicemail message I received did not contain a unique reference number - apparently if they leave a reference number, you can use this for immediate verification and don't need to prove your identity using other means. If you ever get a flagged transaction listen carefully to the full message and note down any reference number.
2. I discovered there is another Amex customer with my TextNow number attached to their account, so they weren't able use SMS verification (ffs)
3. Amex can usually identify you via SSN or US Drivers Licence if those are on file, neither of which I had of course
4. The rep said I would need to go through a process with NotaryCam (online notarisation service) to prove my identity, and started listing off the acceptable forms of ID ... US Drivers Licence, US Passport, US State ID, Green Cards, etc. I explained I had none of those and that I had opened the card less than a week ago as a Global Transfer from Amex AU in preparation for moving to the US. 🤥

I told them I used my Australian Passport for identification during the US application process, so this might be the best way for Amex US to identify me again, but the rep said no, the only way I can use an Australian Passport was physically at a US bank and get it notarised in person. A few hours later I receive the below email reiterating what the rep said - only US citizens are able to get their notarisation done overseas...

At this point, I was quite worried and was coming to terms with my Amex US journey being over just as it was starting. But for some reason I thought I should check out the NotaryCam link they mentioned, even though they said I couldn't use non-US ID. So off I went to NotaryCam. I needed to sign up for a NotaryCam account in order to see the form, and then noticed...

So I figured this was at least worth a try and submitted the form. NotaryCam has an absolutely junk UI - it leads you to think you can hop straight into a call with a notary with a "Join Meeting Now" button, but after 4 hours of keeping the tab open while doing other work I can safely say it does not work that way.

The best option is to select "Schedule Meeting" and select a time at least 24 hours in the future, as they need to review your application and email a unique link to join the call.

Once you have opened the link, the notary will pull up the below form and start a video conference:

The notary will ask your street address, phone number, to select one of the four checkboxes on the form (I selected #1), for you to hold your passport up to the webcam, and in your words why Amex has asked you to complete the notarisation. You also need to hold up your right hand and swear that you are yourself. The completion of the document is entirely digital and there is no need to insert your actual signature.

After this process you'll need to wait 24-48 hours for someone at Amex to process the notarisation. I had initially called the fraud team after a few hours but they said I would have to call back during 8am-8pm EST (currently 11pm-11am Sydney) to catch the onshore team. So I called back during 8am-8pm and was then told to wait for Amex to reach out to me once the identification had been processed, which of course they tried to do at 4am local time so I missed the call. I called back again a few hours later and after being placed on hold for about 10 minutes, the agent came back and told me all good, block lifted, have a nice day.

I don't know whether I can now verify my identity with my AU Passport number in future, or whether I need to go through NotaryCam every time time a transaction is flagged. Do any long-term Amex US cardholders have experience with this?

On a side note, both my Amex AU and US accounts now ask for a one-time password every single time I try to login to the online portal or sync with AwardWallet. For my AU login I can have the OTP delivered through either SMS or email, for the US account only email is an option. Is this happening for anyone else or have my accounts been somehow flagged? 😩

What an absolute pain. ☹️

That attempted transaction wasn’t your first try at using the card, was it? I’m guessing that it was also $$$$.

Just to share my card usage, FWIW, I now have three Amex Hiton cards and my first transaction is always a very small amount. However, I have no idea if that makes any real difference but no fraud issues.

I think it’s prudent to only put small spends on the card at least until you have paid the 1st month off.

And this is a good strategy regardless of whether it’s Amex, Chase or anybody else.
