QF A380 back in service from January 11

I'm Flying QF11 on Tuesday and this no IFE is a joke. Bumped from a 787 to an unrenovated A380 with a broken IFE is definitely "not as advertised" when booking the seat. They need to use the other A380 parked in Sydney or the 787. In addition, I got bumped off a connecting flight as it was oversold for Business Class. They need to get their stuff together, this is a bad reputational hit for loyal Qantas Flyers. Talk about a "Flagship" Service.
Any seats on QF93?
If I was in Business on QF11 I’d ask to be moved to this instead.

It is an Award seat so since the original flight is "not canceled" and there is no classic award availability that wouldn't be an option, unfortunately.

I'm just happy it's 2022 and we have phones with Netflix / Youtube Downloads imagine it's 2008 and you have no choices!

Welcome to AFF, @Tpownage. Changing flights should be an option, see this article. Section 4.7 of Qantas’ conditions of carriage is unchanged.

Yes but I haven’t been “downgraded” and it’s within their rights to swap the plane as it’s still a “business class” flight. So that 4.7 doesn’t apply. It’s more along the lines of “false advertising” if the IFE is broken and they know prior without telling anyone.

Does anyone know why QF didn't opt to put the renovated A380s into service first? The renovated have more premium seats, so was QF expecting to be able to sell more Y hence the older layout?
 
OQD is still in the hangar at SYD with scaff around the wingtips and cowls still open.

Hopefully a 1:1 swap with OQB when it comes back into service.

Because it came into service earlier than expected. Still a pathetic excuse tbh.

Yes but surely they chose which aircraft to bring back into service.

All had been out of service near identical timeframes, surely makes more sense to bring back the renovated first, as the unrenovated will need to go out of service to get renovated.

Also a shame it seems that QF didn't take advantage of all the non flying time to fix broken seats etc, before storing in the desert.
 
I suspect the problem relates to the early re-entry into service. Remember OQB had gone to Dresden. Now it did get I believe an engine overhaul and a big maintenance check but Iimagine it was ALSO scheduled to have the interior upgraded with a planned returned to service perhaps in March or even July.

I suspect it got pulled out of that, and having had the latest maintenance check and engine overhaul etc in DRS it was the best airframe to fly from that point of view.

I suspect OQD requires more intense maintenance - maybe a C or D check or something before it can take pax (despite ferrying in from LAX) and that is what is going on now.

Remember you don't just pull the tarp off a plane, stick the key in and off you go. Significant work required.

The irony or perhaps sad irony is that the decision to bring the 380 back earlier on was probably made before Omi took real hold, and the capacity is possibly not required now anyway (but the apparent 787 pilot staffing issue is also a factor or could be).

Seems a bit of a perfect storm. They wanted the capacity, probably did not see the IEF or seat issues happening, or considered them "minor" (I disagree) and/or fixable quickly (clearly not the case!) so customers suffer.

Of course they chose which aircraft. Apart from the one just finishing a major mechanical overhaul, they probably next pick the ones at the front of the queue of those parked - imagine trying to get an A380 out that is parked behind a half dozen others.
 
These two were in the LAX Hangars so as others said I don’t see why the other one shouldn’t be ready or damn close to ready

Not making an excuse for QF (no way would I accept this aircraft sub for such a long flight/consumer law takes precedence against any of the stupid QF T&Cs) but the captain who flew OQB back to SYD did say it had much less maintenance checks scheduled than the others hence why it was first to come into service.

QF initially said they were bringing back 6 A380s so it is bad luck the first one is a dud. Ironically Alan Joyce gave a speech about how the A380 is the aircraft our customers love hence why they are bringing them back early :rolleyes:
 
UA has never looked so good.....
Such a sad truth really.

I will say though the IFE on UA's 77W's and 787's is pretty full featured imo and works (plus wifi) and the J product (except the older faux polaris on the 787's being phased out) is actually a decent one that compares well with the Qantas J suite imo.

and I think they still have spirits :D
 
I hope by the time I need to fly the A380 in August, we are seeing the refurbed ones in operation. If not would prefer they use the Dreamliner.
