Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I left Hong Kong and arrived in Sydney one day before quarantine started in 2020. I doubt I’ll ever see the HK that was again :(.

For all their attempts to achieve “covid-zero” in China, look how’s its turning out. They’ve got more restrictions than just about anywhere else.
And they expect to host the Olympics next month?

And they expect to host the Olympics
When did the Olympics ever take heed of what the locals want?

Tokyo?

Brisbane?

AP?

Beijing?. They got no snow. They are turning off factories because they want to showcase blue sky?. Environmentalism?.

Worried about Covid?. I don’t think so

Hey The Project. Do you think Beijing will give vaccine medical exemptions to the Olympics. And what will happen if non vaxxed complained to the Courts there?

Unfortunately I agree with you on all counts.

I will be living on my memory of the last flight we took out of HKG in Oct 2019 for the foreseeable (QF128, 747 upstairs). We are looking at our second OS trip for 2022, and only considering via SIN at this point. I suspect we will never travel to or transit through HKG again, although never is admittedly a long time.

I know what you mean. Now our regional office has closed there and moved to another Asian city like most other companies, I doubt I’ll go back. Prefer to remember it how I experienced it.

I’ll still transit though if Cathay survives. If…..

Just checking: Are you talking China or WA - or both? 🤨
I was thinking at the time of China. But I haven’t seen WA’s exit strategy. I’m not sure Mark the Merciless has one either.

Flew CX to HKG in Oct, but both were a shadow of their former selves. If I don’t get back I may have to content myself with memories of ‘please hold the handrail’ in Cantonese and Mandarin.

I was hoping qld would end the quarantine requirements for overseas travellers whilst I was enroute. They haven't but at least they have made the required testing on day 1 and 12 a RAT instead of PCR.
Lucky I bought a box back with me. And my family who are isolating separate to me as daughter has covid will be able to use then on day 6 too.

You could still be in luck with the new definition of who needs to quarantine now being changed (in NSW, Vic & Qld so far) to someone who's tested positive AND is not a worker in an essential industry. Under the latest definition of 'Close contact' being living in the same household (effectively) - if you're not experiencing symptoms then despite being 100% certain (according to latest advice) of catching Covid-19 - you can return to work in an essential industry WITHOUT taking a RAT.

Logic has just been tossed out the window - if lack of workers is a problem now, then risking infecting those available by those at their potentially most infectious (under Omicron in the period leading up to symptoms) - then international traveller quarantine requirements should soon be zero.

"Latest advice" may be an overestimate. We (both 3jabs) have been isolating with positive children for last 8 days and are still negative. May be jinxing us of course...

I disagree. Logic at last is being used for a change. The evidence from the real world now is that Omicron is not really different to endemic flu. Sure there will be more cases of Omicron than the usual yearly number of endemic flu so more hospitalisations and deaths. but those in essential services such as Health Care are generally younger and so unlikely to get severe illness.

Now even in a bad year we don't test everyone for flu. When I worked in a flu ward I did get symptoms so tested once. It was however RSV so I was allowed to keep working.

Certainly here in Tassie we are all now in full PPE for all the time we are in the hospital so risk to patients is not great. All patients are tested on admission.

As an essential worker I’m thrilled by this logical new decision. I’m still waiting to get omicron and now knowing I don’t have to isolated for 7 days if I get close contacted with household contacts is great news!
