ABC radio reporting that WA going under masks from tonight for about 5 days, event cancellations etc, due to backpacker arriving on the 12th, mixing in the community (nighclub, bar etc last Sat/Sun) and now positive.

Geisha Bar owner Craig Shorthill, who is stuck in Melbourne, said there would have been about 350 to 400 customers at his venue at the same time as the COVID case, as well as 15 staff.

“One of the managers found out from the Health Department after the text messages were sent out,” Mr Shorthill said.

“We got very little information from the Health Department, all we were told was that anyone who was there between 12am and 3am on Sunday morning needs to get tested.

“We’ve been told by the Health Department we’re Ok to trade tomorrow night, which shocks the hell out of me.

“They said as long as we’ve got staff that test negative we’re welcome to trade Friday night, but we’ve chosen to close down and do a three-day deep clean and not open Christmas Eve.”

If the nightclubber at the centre of the COVID scare had the virus on Friday, it means they have potentially been infectious in the community for seven days.

And that WA is over 83% vaccinated (12+) so should be VERY WELL PROTECTED already.

But 18 months of scaring people means a immediate need to go to ‘arm waving stations’.

I read he became unwell Sunday and didn’t get tested until yesterday so out in the community for quite some time. Given there just weren’t that many positives in Qld when he flew over, the fact that one arrived into WA is interesting.

One thing I've noticed about these things when there are low numbers, is how many fly around, and how many are truck drivers....

The relevant data you seek is Covid IgG prevalence in % of total population or cohort. IgG is the long lasting antibody.
So the best way to look for this data is to specifically search for "Covid IgG seroprevalence"

The Red Cross Blood Bank I believe has some Delta specific data which is not yet publicly available but there is one MJA study using pre Delta 2020 data which suggested that after the first wave the seroprevalence was less than 1% of the population

This Indian study suggests that 2/3 of the population above age 6 have Covid IgG and over 85% of Health care workers have Covid IgG by July 2021

The latest Imperial college UK paper suggests maybe 50% of UK have been exposed to Covid and possibly developed antibodies.

But you ask an important question about data which is actually more important than Daily new cases.

Oh well good chance lots of people have been infected in Perth. Was bound to happen. Lucky the vaccine has been made available for more than half a year.

Interesting they would identify the resident. That is completely the opposite of my complex where no personal details are revealed, just a message saying there's a positive case in the building and monitor for symptoms etc

Yep.
We've now had 3 cases in my 200+ apartment building over the past 6 months.
They don't even mention the floor, although the grapevine is strong after a couple of days.

Only had two days in the building without masks, before this case got announced so back to highly recommended, and i assume compulsory come midnight tonight in Sydney.

Worst story I've heard is a former colleague who had a fairly innocuous foot operation last week. Surgeon tested positive a few days ago so as close contact, he's now in 2wks isolation over Xmas.

If it’s omicron (haven’t seen?) lots of people are probably asymptomatic too and not even realising they are infected. But even if it’s Delta - vax rates so high again may be walking around infectious. Oh well. Another lockdown for Xmas for Perth? Sad.

Very little government testing....Lots of private testing with FIFO workers - although that might have dropped off

The best way forward for all governments would be to stop publishing the number of cases. Hospitalisation capacity sure. Cases, nope.

Isn't that the reason for vaccination? - so that subsequent infection matters significantly less. So why are so scared of it?

There is a reckoning for trying to avoid respiratory viruses. 2 years without Flu, RSV etc will mean the immunity to those will wane. Look out.

The timeline of the WA case is curious. Arrived in Perth on the 12th but is reported feeling sick on the 19th. If picked up in Qld shouldn’t that be earlier?
