IATA has provided an update on its digital travel pass: IATA Travel Pass Initiative
The IATA says its Travel Pass is designed to unify validation and authentication for “all country regulations regarding covid-19 passenger travel requirements,” with the app allowing passengers to create a digital passport, verify and store their testing results and vaccination cards, and provide a secure way to share those results with government and air travel authorities. And by working with test centres, labs may even be able to issue digital certificates directly to passengers before an upcoming trip.

I note that Qantas is one of the Airlines currently trialing the IATA Travel Pass, having downloaded it however I also note that Australia is not one of the enabled Governments with the ability to upload Vaccination Certificates.

Is anyone actively using the IATA Travel Pass and, if so, are you only using it for COVID Test Results and what are you using to manage the Vaccination Certificate?

Gave up after multiple attempts to get my photo to match the chip photo.

Based on the 1.5*/5 ranking on Android, many people have multiple issue with the app.

I got a match for my photo. Haven’t yet put the passport scan in yet though. Just gone back in and it knows me. Awful photo btw.

After multiple attempts I cannot get the TP to scan my passport chip

The Apple iOS version prompts for an “invitation” code. How are you getting past that?

From the Etihad website
Travel Pass invitation code for Apple iPhones: 123412
Travel Pass invitation code for Google Android phones: 787350

As referenced above, a couple of airlines, including Etihad and Emirates, have made the codes public on their websites, which I picked up on in another thread. I used the EK code but I believe you can use any airline code to access the app. Getting it to work effectively may be another story. YMMV.
Good luck with it.

I downloaded the app a couple of months ago but got the “invitation” code splash screen and TBH, didn’t bother looking that hard for a code, figuring it would turn up when needed. But since people have got past that hurdle, I’m up for the challenge.

Reading the comments above, it sounds similar to a recent experience I had going through the Fit2Work employment checks. They introduced the selfie requirement to match to DL photo. That never worked but I managed to push through to the next level.

I would not be surprised at all if the coders of these things are die hard role playing geeks who assume early adopters share their passion. Then the boss realises what they've done with a “WTF!”… 🤣

Yesterday I queried IATA on the planned timeline for the integration of the Australian Government vaccination certificate, got the response overnight that this is planned to be available "by the end of November".

Thanks for being proactive about this and sharing. Non-compatibility of the Australian ICVC with IATA TP seems to make the TP effectively a non-starter for AU-vaccinated prospective users until it’s resolved – though there is other useful TP functionality. That must be vexing for airlines that have successfully trialled and committed to the TP (including QF, EK, EY, SQ): they would no doubt have liked to see it ready to use in full from the restart of international travel on 1 Nov.

QF has planned to integrate the TP with the QF app. Yesterday's relevant media release isn’t explicit on that point but does mention the IATA TP:
'Over the coming weeks, the digital experience will include a seamless integration with the IATA Travel Pass to help customers travel stress free, by enabling them to upload their vaccine and testing documents and be cleared to fly before they get to the airport'.

It’s good to see QF (and presumably other carriers) will be pushing ‘a customised digital travel guide’ at passengers to ensure all pre-flight compliance boxes are ticked. Many other countries, according to fellow AFF posters, are being less ambitious than Australia about take-up of digital storage and verification of travel credentials, and yet are able to manage international travel without long check-in and arrival processing times (well, mostly).

As I’ve commented elsewhere I’m willing to give the TP and other new digital tools a go but will prepare for the worst and also carry a full set of hard copy docs – which seems to be generally recommended.

New update of Android app now scans the whole photo page instead of just barcode.

And I past the photo match test first go. So something has changed there as well (or maybe it was the fresh haircut Vs Covid cut).

Still no AU Vacc certificates, but Qantas and Jetstar are listed in the flight lookup.

I cannot get past the passport stuff so then it dumps my photo ID as well.

I tested the app a few months back using the Etihad code. I couldn’t get the app to scan the chip in my Aussie passport. It read my other passport just fine.

A possible shortfall in the app is you can only scan one passport.

Also going to look at the app now & apparently no use for a couple of months has caused a reset & having to start again.

Works fine for my Irish passport but no go with my Australian.

Actually think it might be defective chip inside so I’ve lodged a complaint and review with Melbourne passport office last week. Will let you know what they say.

My Aus passport in addition to not working with IATA app also fails with DigitalID (auspost app) and the smart gate departure only scanners (manual agent intervention every time at Mel, Syd and BNE). Arrivals fine though.

I cannot get my Aussie passport to scan with DigitalID (and my local PO reckon they can't scan the QR code) - have given up on it, scans OK with the IATA App though.

So it's our passport then. The Medicare app now produces an International certificate so likely it's moot.

***App Update*** Removal of invitation code, & no scanning of chip. However, Australian vaccination certificate still not recognised & limited locations for PCR test. Also Qantas not listed as flight operator at this time.

So this is interesting…I’m still waiting to hear from passport office (3weeks ish now)

Think Australia has asked IATA to switch off chip scanning for just Aus passports. As my Irish one still prompts for chip scan. Or perhaps Aus ones don’t follow same standard chip?

Nudge... Wondering if anyone has any more recent experience?
I'm getting a sense that this is heading for an IT non-interoperable black hole... like the first, useless, costly, Aus Government procured, COVID-19 App?
