Getting Both AZ & Pfizer

So if boosters are required, two medico's here now saying they'd have AZ again. Apart from that obvious discussion, is there benefit in doing this over two AZ and one of moderna etc?
Nope. Or to put it scientifically “how long is a piece of string”.

My own reasons derive from my daily proximity to some very sick people. Technically, 3jab better than 2jab, and mix and match better than same same, and my PZ interval was 3 weeks.

Now having said that, the data is nowhere at a level where ATAGI/TGA can recommend one way or another yet.
For the general population, its a little bit like the "more is better" crowd. If 2 is good then 5 must be better. In the same vein, if 2 is good then 3 must be better. But is it?. Better in what way? - that the measured antibody levels are higher?. But does that translate to lower infection rate?. Assuming yes is basically the pseudoscience of the "more is better" crowd.

Some people may benefit, some maybe not. Perhaps a targeted approach is all that we need. So it will becomes a question of to what degree is "more is better".

What I am not clear on is whether AZ after 2PZ has any problems. AZ after 1PZ seems OK.

What is clear is that as the population heads to in excess of 90% 16yrs+ 2jab, that the risk of severe covid is drastically reduced. That means that for most people there is now time to wait for official evidence. For others like me, the wait and see approach may not be as comfortable

I am also acutely aware that large parts of the world's population remain unvaccinated while we in AU can comfortably/casually talk about 3jabs. And that is an important equity issue.
International travel by a fully vaccinated person into a less vaccinated country can potentially cause havoc in that country. The fully vaccinated can carry and transmit Covid - albeit at lower levels and for shorter periods of time. So while we advocate for the opening up of borders, lets make sure we don't inadvertently become like the Spanish who decimated the Aztecs with smallpox.

With me is that from February I will be at lower risk. Plus the studies with the third dose of AZ are showing better performance and less side effects compared to the second dose.
If I went with Pfizer I could have worse side effects.

How about Moderna? Maybe a controversial question but if Atagi didn't recommend a booster, you know my story, I'd want a booster before I travel Overseas in May. At this stage I can get AZ or Moderna without really having to be queried or questioned ( I'm thinking March). So maybe AZ? Assuming it's available. Having no interest, at this time, going to USA.

Moderna is probably quite reasonable for you. Some evidence that it lasts a bit longer than Pfizer.

Wouldn't a standard question be whether you've had any other vaccines?
Yes good point. I will have to craft the answer. Maybe it's a case of - is this your first vaccine of Moderna? But not an issue until six months after last June so hopefully the path is clearer by then.

That (dodgy) medical centre in Adelaide? 😀

Maybe I need to find one of those. CAN/USA trip planned for mid-2022.

I am doing moderna as booster as well. I am DD with AZ.

Planning on going to India in late november, so for peace of mind want a booster.

It depends on whether the Vax place has the capability to see into your current covidVax history

If not then even with that question, two types of answer is possible - the true or the false.

I would have preferred to have AZ for 1 and 2 and especially after getting pericarditis from 2nd Pfizer. Unfortunately doesn’t seem to be an option and I don’t imagine switching it out for moderna would help me

Moot point as only Pfizer has been approved for the 3rd (booster) dose irrespective of which vaccine you got. I will be happy to get Pfizer as my 3rd shot having had 2 doses of the AZ....if I was a young male which I'm sadly no longer, I would be more worried about myocarditis with Pfizer. Having said that you could walk into any pharmac_ now and ask for your "1st"" dose of AZ. 😉

I posted that on 3rd October. So much has changed since. A good thing. I heard today that Pfizer will also be offered at Pharmacies. I guess they've sorted out the storage this time round. The booster won't contribute to the International vaccination record I heard.

SIL is also due her third Pfizer. She works in the vaccination hub. I'm due for third (2 Az) in about a month.
