Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

The Press Release is on the PM's website:

"States and territories will begin this program at different times given their varying vaccination rates but we expect the system to commence in November... We know it has been an extraordinarily difficult 18 months for Australians overseas trying to come home and for Australians with family and friends overseas."

So it's up to the states. November is good. Here's hoping that VIC starts by early December.

Some acknowledgment is nice, but I guess we'll never get them to admit that the border closure was wrong and get an apology.

If its based on 80% technically NSW could open in late October.

sinovac will be approved by the TGA which is massively good news.

Disagree, it a very poor performer, means some of the supposedly vaccinated arrivals will have very low level protection.

Think we should stick with the vaccines that have proven effective against Delta, and Sinovac is not one of those. Countries who vaccinated their medical workers with Sinovac have had to give early Mrna boosters, because too many who were vaccinated with SInovac were dying or ending up in ICU.

The concession is likely being made for the international student market from China, but better would be to require them to get a booster of another better vaccine on arrival (user pays of course and 14 days iso for them til it kicks in)

A number of posts have been deleted that were discussing the resignation and succession of the NSW Premier.

States could choose to require boosters for the international students with vaccines that are authorised to be administered in Australia if they have had Sinovac to attend university and the universities may be willing to pay for those vaccinations and facilitate them.

Getting into the country is a very different thing to having freedoms to do things once in here.

The international students should pay for the booster jab, not the university (aka the Australian tax payer).

Is Pfizer available in China for a fee? Wonder if people who can afford to study in Australia would pay to get it?

Not sure it is. All evidence is showing that this vaccine doesn’t work.

Be careful with generalist statements like ‘all evidence’ and ‘doesn’t work’. They are untrue.

Of course it works how well it works is the question and that depends at what point you look at when. Even our vaccines fade, some faster as others as is increasingly being documented.

Certainly the peak effectiveness doesn’t look as high as the ones used locally here, but at the end of the day we are going to be highly immunised anyway ourselves. The anti vaxxers might be concerned but oh well 😂

It was always going to be approved.

Particularly as the WHO have approved it.

I think that only leaves the Russian vaccines?

We can do much better than the very low 50% bar the WHO set for approval. Being safe doesnt make it effective, real world shows pretty useless against Delta.

Nope there are many many other vaccines being used not approved, including the Cuban one (which Id trust more than Sinovac).

Let's see how AP and Queenslanders will react to this news.
Her attitude today at the Press Conference was shocking with her attitude towards journalists.

Hopefully returning Queenslanders will be able to do their quarantine as home.

Obviously more details will be released but the 7 day home quarantine obviously only applies if you have a home and I’m guessing only will be allowed if no one else at that home?
Those coming in would still need to do 14 days hotel quarantine?

At this point the universities are desperate to get students back. If they have to pay for things like a booster jab they would do it. Compared to the thousands upon thousands they get from each international student it’s a small cost.

Today’s announcement is a positive step but there’s much more detail to come some of which could vary from state to state.

Disagree, you could use stand alone AirBNB as I understand whish would be classified same as home, or even if you have a home, as long as you can isolate independently to rest of your family (my case) you can. You just need separate bedroom, toilet and bathroom, and not leave there or interact with family.

This is where mixed messaging starts to come home to roost :( Victoria is clear it only follows health advice. The Cth and NSW have said they follow a range of advice - advice that may not necessarily be in the best health interests of people. So I wonder whether the TGA's approval is just on economic grounds, or whether it really is valid in terms of protecting health?

Pure Health advice would see the banning of alcohol, cigarettes, fast cars, plane travel etc. It's advice. Not a way of life.
