The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

Sorry, I didn't click that you were referring Pfizer cancellations. So the idea that people were cancelling AZ in order to get Pfizer, as apparently mentioned on The Project, are wrong?

Why is it happening then? Surely there is an urgency still in Victoria?

Im not sure that anything Ten produced or Channel 9 nightly news is exactly the pinnacle of accurate reporting of anything 😂 (And this is coming from someone whose related to people who work there 😂)

Two separate issues. The pfizer vacancies are under bookings, the cancellations are mostly AZ.

The Age and News articles i linked both quoted Andrews blaming the Federal Government's Pfizer annoucement, but of course you will discredit those sources too, having already disregarded The Project (channel 10) and the ABC news. Given the sledge came from Andrews himself i dont think you can claim media making things up. But apparently 9 is more trustworthy, lol.

The solution to under bookings is to open to more people, thats what WA had to do as they had low participation (still do but would be lower without the 30-39s) or you allow walk ins of anyone over 16 in the last hour each day to mop up any open Pfizer that didnt get used. Could also run a stanby list like they did overseas, for people who can come in at short notice or call up next weeks first dose appointments and see who can come early.

Binning Pfizer doses at end of the day is ridiculous when so easy to avoid. Only a total lack of creative thinking wastes doses.

On that we both agree which is why I queried when it was used as the source to explain the cancellations.

Well I would not rely on The Project either, however as soon as I heard the PM make that announcement I thought that it would cause a drop off in AZ bookings. And not just for under 39's but some of the over 60's would think it means Pfizer for all, or at least sooner.

40/50K of Pfizer was added into the Vic State Hub Bookings this week, and so that created a large number of new booking slots. So personally this week I think it is a combination of more Pfizer slots being created and AZ dropping off in demand or being cancelled.

Remember too that in Vic that AZ second dose is still at 12 weeks. In NSW it is much shorter, and where Pfizer is at 6 weeks may even be quicker to get to the second dose.

They're not going to be throwing out much Pfizer if any at the end of the day. They don't open a vial only to not use any of it and there's only a limited number of doses in each vial.

There's obviously a problem where even after the premier made those comments, and the news coverage, I can look at covidqueue.com and there's still plenty of Pfizer appointments available this week in Melbourne & regional - some as soon as tomorrow.

Compare that to NSW where there's an odd appointment towards the end of September and most places are booked out for three months solid.

I've seen sporting events for 50K people sell out in minutes...

I think the Queensland system is working pretty good where you register your interest and then they book you in as slots open. I believe they actively move people forward to ensure no empty slots get wasted. Maybe Victoria could be doing this.

We must make that move and we must prepare to make that move and we must prepare the country to make that move."

Children are increasingly falling victim to the delta variant, raising fears for their safety and the success of the national plan which targets vaccinating those aged 16 and over..."

Good graph too - though I think NSW has leapfrogged TAS.

The Vic Govt needs a last minute booking site, like how hotels move their remaining inventory.

Or follow the US airlines and oversell.

I actually have a suspicion NSW is "overjabbing" as they would have the scale to move jabs around and smooth out the bumps in supply and demand.

SMH Front Page talks about the linking of vaccination targets to staggered reopening of schools.

Nice thought but doubt it is true given state hubs receive less doses than the Commonwealth channels (RCs, GPs and Pharmacies).

I think one advantage is that in nsw both doses are booked together, so much easier to manage second doses from get go, so no uncertainty of what time frame someone will choose for second dose, and therefore reliably know what first dose capacity really is.

Well you can just book a slot now if you are eligible.

Pfizer walk-ins are allowed all this week for Aged Care and Disability workers as part of a Second Blitz on this group to get vaccinated. So some of those slots will be used by that cohort.

I am aware of some clinics that operate standby lists for Pfizer of people under 40 who get called up if there are any doses still available at the end of the day. The number of doses are never numerous though. While the clinics can store overnight they prefer to use all the lot up each day if they can.

That's the thing. There should be a centralised standby list for the limited Pfizer, for anyone, over or under 40, who wants it. I just hope there's no Pfizer going to waste because the over 40s are not attending their bookings.

Sure but don’t let the truth get in the way of a good VIC bashing per usual suspects 😂. Just all need to chill out, work through it all together.

so Qld and WA have found the weapon they need to stop borders opening. But SA isn't exactly leading the pack.

So on December first the Commonwealth announces that Australians who are fully vaccinated may leave the country but there will be quotas for those States that have not reached 80%.
Sorry Pushka you will need to move interstate.

I thought this was interesting and certainly people are now asking the question as easily as ‘how’s the weather today’….!

How we choose to sell ourselves on dating apps spans the gamut of human interests, from cute pet dogs to BDSM and everything in between.

But regardless of personal predilections, there’s one attribute that’s become increasingly important right now – our COVID-19 vaccination status.

Some interesting survey data on using incentives to pick off the hesitant.

Restrictions on the Unvaxxed is a no brainer and paying people $500 seems cheap to me, might as well throw the kitchen sink at it. You’d make back the $12.5 billion in enhanced economic activity in no time.

So the idea that people were cancelling AZ in order to get Pfizer, as apparently mentioned on The Project, are wrong?

No, because most of the 16-39s who cancelled AZ cant rebook for Pfizer until later this week.
