I think the same is about to be said in Victoria. I think lockdown will exist in metro Melbourne also for the foreseeable future.

I think the same is about to be said in Victoria.
I doubt that very much. Daniel Andrews just said the below.

Daniel Andrews says there are still "far too many" cases which have not been linked.

He said Victoria will go down the same path as Sydney if they open up before these cases are linked.

“If we were to re-open the whole economy and let people move freely right now then we would finish up where Sydney’s at," he said.

"Thousands of cases, not cases in the tens and twenties, but thousands of cases and hundreds of hundreds of people in hospital and many of them very, very unwell. We would finish up with deaths.”

I think lockdown will exist in metro Melbourne also for the foreseeable future.
I think you are probably right.

We are dooming ourselves to the mistakes of not even 3 months ago, where there was no incentive for people to be vaccinated, so they held off. And we ended up where we are now. People need to be given hope for the future, not just constant downbeat commentary and foreshadowing doomsday

Agree where are the 24/7 vaccination hubs advertising 24/7 availability of AZ now available for anyone 18+ in NSW and VIC? I want to see billboards, TV ads, influencers pumping out Tik Tok videos. It’s so friggin slow and so old school…

I agree we’ve been focussing far too many resources, time and energy on preventing virus spread / borders / testing numbers and not enough on jabbing people.

The Belmont hub that lost them is the Newcastle vaccination hub. Central coast is being delivered through Gosford and Wyong hospitals. Belmont is in the Lake Macquarie LGA which Is part of Greater Newcastle.

The was also the question giving Gladys a hard time because Bunnings was open and in Brisbane it was closed. It was not closed in Brisbane, the question was unsound.
I ponder where did the original idea that Bunnings was closed originate? It’s not possible to close Bunnings in QLD. It’s as essential as bottle shops.

It was closed to the public in Victoria during their lockdown. Open for click and collect and registered tradies only.
I don’t think any of the other states closed it ?

Certain sections of the media are obsessed with the fact that it’s open in NSW and extrapolate that to the “it’s not a hard lockdown” mantra.

With Bunnings you can see the current customers restrictions for each jurisdiction applicable at:

Vic has had various settings for customers. At one stage they also had a restriction where certain critical workers including say healthcare workers could access it during it set hours each day just for them, with the general public restricted to click and collect/deliveries. Tradies had a wider range.

Bunnings was always in a category that had some access. Whereas other retail has had various restrictions from shut completely to closed to walk in but click and collect and deliveries ok.

NZ had the tightest restrictions in their initial lockdown as even many food businesses could not operate including for example stand alone butchers.

Um the Bunnings snag stand is considered 5 star dining by QLD standards so yes it’s essential ;) We were devastated when that wasn’t allowed.

From The Age blog;

Victorian authorities are preparing pop-up testing and vaccine sites in St Kilda East after two new cases emerged in the area this weekend.

A mother and her son who live in the same household were announced as part of Sunday’s 25 cases. They are members of the tight-knit Orthodox Jewish community.

Health officials have been in meetings with local community leaders since Saturday. Community leaders were told the two new cases may have attended a large gathering in recent days, according to multiple local sources speaking confidentially to detail the early stages of the investigations.

There have been reports of minyans - prayer gatherings with a minimum of 10 people - being held during Victoria’s lockdown. However, the gathering being investigated as an exposure site was not a prayer meeting.

The Rabbinical Council of Victoria has called on community members to follow public health rules and the Jewish Community Council of Victorian condemned the prayer gatherings.

During last year’s second wave police raided multiple illegal prayer meetings held by members of Melbourne’s orthodox community.
Authorities are focussed on ensuring as many members of the community as possible come forward for testing.
The allegation on social media is that "the gathering being investigated" was an engagement party with in excess of 100 attendees. Including two positive cases.

I am starting to think mandatory 5 day jail terms now for things like this. No discretion no excuses. You flout a public health order you go the jail. I am sick and tired of people doing the wrong thing 18 months into a pandemic.

There was also the Peacock Inn - an event to walk talk and sip - apparently hundreds there as well. It shows its starting to happen across a broad cross-range of society.

Only if they do the onions QLD style, on top, not like the southern travesty, :)

Problem is where do you draw the line. It is obvious across Melbourne that people are simply fatigued to the extent that compliance can no longer match the health directions, and I am not so sure that a bigger stick is going to make an appreciable dent in that. Especially as more people become vaccinated themselves and they see their 'vulnerable' parents and relatives get vaccinated. Those in public health should be (probably are) acutely aware of this and have a very very short window in which to act. It is perhaps why we have seen domestic border closures move to being increasingly reactive and relatively strong in comparison to 2020.

My posts are not as prolific as others on this subject. I was hoping to bring some balance to the interminable arguments about who is or sin't getting it right.

There has been discussion about what restrictions could be lifted in NSW - well here is mine. My household is fully vaccinated, and my daughter's household will soon have everyone over 16 vaccinated. Why can't we, and others like us. be allowed to meet up in our homes?
The answer is because 'Greencard Vaccinated perks card' was politically unacceptable, while there was not enough vaccine for younger age groups , and that could hurt at a future election. Yes, collective punishment for those in the right.

I think this may have been the original tweeter (or if not then one of them) on the party. 11.35am would have been while the Vic Presser was still going where the event was hinted at enough that those in that community knew what the presser was referring to including the illegal prayer meetings which evidently have also been occurring :

From looking at her tweets she would seem to be a credible source.

Actually it’s often the converse of that.
eg. The health advice is that people are better off going to a large tertiary hospital when they have their stroke/ myocardial infarction/ cancer treatment but the fall out from closing the tiny cottage hospital and consolidating the care is a political minefield so it gets ignored.
Some guy who did his PhD on which Australian hospitals were the worst, infections , bad outcomes, rectification work, was suppressed. However the health funds know, but won't tell. But bigger is better in a 'Rich' location is a good indicator.

Nothing like the enforcement of penalties to wake people up from their fatigue. Lots of people see others out and about and think 'ok I can do that too then'. When they see no penalty perhaps that confirms they can get away with it.

You're saying that the answer to clamping down on alleged non-compliance due to extended imposition on people's freedoms/liberty, is to clamp down further on people's freedoms/liberty? The logic doesn't really stack up, for me, when you consider how long this has been going on for.

I’m going to put it out there that a tetanus shot is a very useful thing to be current on and easy to get, but not altogether helpful right now.
Also, surprising me to learn, hooping cough. In NSW, PoW said only available from your GP.
