Australian state border restrictions

And I’ve been watching friends who’ve had holidays all over Australia for the last 12 months. FNQ, Gold Coast, Sydney, NT, Tassie, even Perth …..

Same, so what.

So all about Victoria being the danger again I see. Not that I would take Mark McGowan as the authority on Covid19, though he does know exactly what buttons to push with his voters and his press conferences are to that audience..

However back in Oct 2020 VicDHHS greatly changed how they handle CV19 (ie two rings method, improving contact tracing and raft of other changes etc) .

So since 1st Nov 2020 Victoria since those changes has had 160 local community cases of Covid 19. So yes on your highlighting of border transmission into Victoria over one hundred and twenty of those cases yes did originate from another state and so that in recent history is where most outbreaks in Victoria have been sourced from (Not that I am finger pointing as the virus is very transmissible), but irrespective of that since the new measures have been deployed any outbreak in Victoria has been quite swiftly dealt with.

The Whittlesea and related clusters grew to 94 cases in part due to an early case who was a super spreader not getting tested for 12 days when symptomatic but also in large part due the much high transmissibility of the new strain (The transmissibility of which you at the time ridiculed when Sutton reported what the contact tracing had discovered, but which presumably now that Dr Chant has reported the same behaviour you accept) and that has led to the settings being changed in Victoria (ie No lockdown for used at Smile Buffalo Outbreak)
..

NSW has in the same period 496 local community cases (not including whatever today's cases are). I make no negative judgement as NSW Health works well and the virus is easily transmissible, but your constant harping on how things are managed in Victoria ignores the actual reality of what has happened since last October.

I don’t understand why Victoria is being punished for the NSW outbreak while they have border controls present. Makes no sense to me.... but yea WA... sigh

.... we might be fearful it can spread to Victoria.

We might be fearful. What, doesn't he even know if he's scared. There's an asteroid due in a couple of years. Odds are a staggeringly high 2%. He should be really quaking over that.

You have to remember that from a WA perspective, anything east of the Nullarbor is an "Eastern State". As someone who grew up in WA, there's not a lot of distinction drawn between "Eastern Staters" . More mobile population now of course but old mindsets die hard.

True, I hear geography lessons stop at age 5 in WA. Will keep that in mind 😂

I’m looking forward to seeing the Federal government go to an election with this plan…..
I agree, but then that would presuppose we will have an opposition. It seems none of them “could grow a choko vine up the back fence“.

From the UK. They are allowed to travel internationally. Unlike us.

So can you! Well you could until a few weeks ago. To NZ. ;)

But you’ve got to remember I that UK is about the same size as Victoria with the climate of southern Tasmania. Going to Spain from the UK is like going to the Sunshine Coast from Melbourne . So “international travel” it may be but geographically at least Australians can fly for hours to go on holidays. Might not be able to access culturally diversity through travel, but between Australia and NZ there’s at least some geographic diversity.

But I know what you’re getting at. It would be good for the government at least have a plan to open up. Not just a one page PowerPoint slide

And we’ve had several interstate plans go down the toilet. 🤷‍♀️
I feel sorry for the staff in airline call centres when 12 million people are locked down and the rest of the population can’t travel to where those 12 million people are. Absolute chaos I am sure, so a huge thanks to the call centre staff!

That’s not at all what lovetravellingoz said. It was your ad infinitum comments he was referring to

No LTO went beyond my post which was soley about McGowans illogical statement and started a rant about things i didnt mention, although as usual reframing point of reference to since October so he can ignore the full story.

Everyone else picked up on the point pf the post which was that McGowan doesnt even know if he is scared or not.

Isn't the many banana benders and sandgropers enough cultural diversity for you? ;) ;) 😁 o_O

It's clear that there is a political wedge being driven by a lot of the premiers against Morrison. The fact that Anastasia & Miles bring up Wellcamp (owned by one of her mates - aren't government contracts the best!) today proves the point. Morrison obviously realises it and doesn't want to be trapped by it so provides no push back. Ultimately this is very damaging to the federation. Certainly Aussies overseas are the ones thrown under this bus by all concerned.
I recall there was a bill passed in federal parliament last year about future emergencies coming under the authority of the Commonwealth - perhaps that is the only hope in this (if it is truly the case). Maybe if Morrison wins the next election he'll be doing his best to punish these premiers.
