Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

So yes if fully vaccinated in April it will have been Pfizer. Two residents at Arcare who caught Covid also had been given Pfizer.

(Note once again that the vaccines do not necessarily mean that people will not get infected. There are plenty of reports in both the US and the UK of vaccinated people still becoming infected. But yes outcomes are for the vast majority, though not all, much improved)

Reported earlier today that two staff had worked at Summit Care Baulkham Hills while infectious

NSW Health identified a student nurse tested positive on the evening of Tuesday June 29. This case was announced on Wednesday as she had worked whilst infectious at Fairfield and RNSH. Testing of close contacts of this case identified an additional eight cases across 3 linked households. Of those cases, five worked in aged care and healthcare, two had worked at Summit Care Baulkham Hills while infectious, one worked at Royal North Shore Hospital, Royal Ryde Rehab hospital and Fairfield Hospital whilst infectious.
Israel has reported that around 50% of those getting Covid in the latest outbreak have been vaccinated (they use Pfizer and Moderna), however they said that the important figure was that hospitalisation was down 90% with those who had been vaccinated.

#BREAKING 3 residents at Summit Care’s Baulkham Hills nursing home have tested positive overnight. 2 of 3 were fully vaxxed with Pfizer vaccine & transferred to Westmead. All showing no symptoms and in good spirits. 96% of 149 residents vaxxed. Thoughts with all families #Covid

Well that’s what the vaccine is for! The two vaccinated should hopefully be ok. Best wishes for a non-event :)

The one who is not vaccinated - that’s unfortunate if they decided not to get the vaccine.

Has there been any further info about the vaccinated people at that party? Did they ever develop Covid?

Surely it’s time that folk who refuse the vaccine are told to leave. No jab, no stay

The only exception to this should be those who medically can’t get vaccinated due to other conditions such as anaphylactic reactions to prior vaccination.

Those who aren’t vaccinated by choice could also be restricted from having visitors to reduce risk to others in the facility.

Given these people are in a nursing home it’s likely many will be medically unable to consent or should even have the vaccination.

Hence why I said in my first post on this facility:

In any event, it should be pretty darn clear that anyone working in healthcare or anything adjacent to medical such as nursing homes needs to be vaccinated right now. Patients need to know that if they go to the hospital for routine treatment they won't end up on a ventilator because nurse Karen didn't get her COVID jab.

I am flabbergasted that all healthcare workers are still not vaccinated! I have always thought that aged care workers including clerical staff should have been vaccinated along with the residents as they are in the same building! And student nurses, no matter their age, are rotated through different hospitals and should have been vaccinated along with all hospital staff way back at the beginning. Also along with all clerical staff. ward clerks, admission staff, etc; all share the same dining room and toilets after all.

Given we can’t vaccinate everyone involved in our international border… which is a much smaller list than healthcare… unfortunately I’m no longer surprised by anything to do with our governments at any level.

My Mum has cancer so I made darn sure she got advice from her gp and oncologist re ability to get vaccinated as soon as 1b opened (i.e. week one) and she got dose one in week 2 and dose 2 in second last week of June.
Well aren't you lucky it all worked out for you. For others, it's not that simple. Especially with the ridiculously long time between AZ shots.

I had my first in the first week they were available to hospital workers (late march). This month, I've had to cancel three - no, four - different appointments for my second shot because of my personal and medical circumstances at the time. I finally managed to get it this week, two weeks after it was first due because I am currently living rural and it's harder to get appointments outside the cities.

My rather elderly aunt and uncle have (rather naively, it has to be said) waited for their GP to get stocks and aren't due for their FIRST AZ shot until AUGUST. Which means they will not have significant immunity until December. Are they expendable because they haven't had the internet savvy or other ability to seek out an earlier vaccination?

Maybe instead of pontificating here, you could put your energy somewhere useful, and maybe write letters to ScoMo and co to urge them to get a move on with the vaccine rollout so everyone can get vaccinated and we can ALL get back on with our lives.

Update on Qld.

One new local COVID-19 case recorded in Queensland

Queensland has recorded one new case of community transmission, as Brisbane and Moreton Bay residents enjoy their first full day of freedom after lockdown was lifted at 6:00pm last night.
Here's Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk:
"We have two new cases, one is overseas acquired and detected in hotel quarantine. One is locally acquired."
"We are very happy today to hear that news about only one community case and that it is linked."

I have a feeling that we haven’t stamped it out up here.... there’s a few missing pieces... Lots of messy chains. But maybe we got lucky. Oh well.

NSW records 16 new local cases

3 were active in the community whilst infectious.

14 are linked, 2 mystery.

Gladys calls out rule breakers calls on people to stay at home, wear masks and business to follow the rules.

Excellent news :) (The decrease in both the total of new cases, and in the number who were in the community while infectious)

There are those who can give permission on behalf of such residents and not all will do so.

My wife had Enduring Power of Attorney (Medical) for her Alzheimer's affected mother and was approached for consent by the nursing home management. The vaccinations were duly done.

She did discuss it beforehand with her siblings, two of whom would not have given said permission.

I just wish Gladys would stop floating around her 80% vaccination target thought bubble for opening up... and modify it to 80% offered or something 😞
Seems Gladys is pushing for 80% of adult population to be vaccinated and the Feds are 80% of all population. Neither of which will be achieved IMO
