Well it's two big birthday celebrations in the QF WP family - my father turned 90 on Saturday and Mrs QF WP is turning a milestone age on Friday.

Thursday night is going to be spent at the Gabba, watching out beloved Lions against Geelong. Mrs QF WP should make an appearance on the big scoreboard during a break ;)

But turning to the big event - a Sunday lunch for 9 (yes this Sunday 26th). Money is less of an issue, as QF WP's Dad is footing the bill. Wouldn't mind a BYO, as I have a cellar that needs to be opened.

Parents live at Fig Tree Pocket (nearby to nephew and his fiance that are coming) and we're northside. Looking for something a little upmarket, hoping they can also decant the wines (so I can take them earlier to give themsome time to breathe).

Unfortunately our favourite restaurant in Brissy has gone.
From a long way back Two Small Rooms. But maybe 9 won't get in now.But close to Toowong.
We did enjoy Three Blue Ducks at the W.

And Gourmet did a best of Brisbane 2 years ago.Might not all have survived.

If nothing, I'm learning about some restaurants on my side of town I never knew existed, like:

Pata Negra (Spanish): Menu – Pata Negra Spanish Tapas Bar and Restaurant
La Belle Vie (French): Menu of La Belle Vie Restaurant — La Belle Vie | Brisbane Bistro and Bar (great view, check it out here: La Belle Vie Bistro's Story - About us — La Belle Vie | Brisbane Bistro and Bar)
Kathmandu Newa Chhe'n (Himalayan/Nepalese): Kathmandu Newa Chhe'n
Il Posto (Italian): About Il Posto
NAIM: OUR STORY | NAÏM Restaurant

Yes, have dined there but a long while ago. No chance getting a table for 9 :( and closed on Sundays: HOME | 2-small-rooms

Don't really want to go into CBD with aged parents. An interesting list, I used to dine at Ecco when I lived around the corner in Admiralty Towers, was single and I couldn't be bothered cooking (see it's moved finally to Newstead).

Thanks for adding to the list @drron, at least now we have a guide here on AFF

The only one that is ticking any boxes at the moment is Wine & Larder Bistro: Home | Wine & Larder Bistro | Restaurant & Wine Bar | Ashgrove, Brisbane, QLD.

Menu: Adobe Acrobat

Wine list: Adobe Acrobat

Has anybody eaten there?

Damn, it's closed Sundays.
Yes. Been there a few times. Excellent wine list and nice food, limited menu. Very busy on Friday nights.

For a nice classic bistro meal and well priced long wine list (french) try Thierry Galichet's in Spring Hill. Easy access with parking (limited).

So in the running are NAIM and Pata Negra (as they both open on a Sunday), but can't call them yet.

Have to take her to La Belle Vie and Kathmandu Newa Chhe'n (she was meant to be trekking to Base Camp now, but COVID stuffed that plan)

Been an interesting time researching, I know a lot more about local restaurants now.

Know where that is - our family business was a long time resident of Spring Hill (20 years). Looked good until I saw "We will be closed after dinner service on Friday 25th June and reopening at lunch time on Monday 12th July" on the website...:(

You could go the its sibling "Montrachet" run by Shannon Kellam. Essentially Thierry's menu revamped a bit. (OT: We bought several of their cook at home packages during the Brisbane lockdowns last year.)

I was in Brisbane last week and had dinner at 85 Miskin St which was excellent.

This was excellent but might not be fancy enough for a special occasion

I have had many meals here and also top class Alchemy Restaurant Brisbane

I had dinner at Bisou Bisou at the new Hotel X and very much enjoyed that

Good luck

Oh, Creole Soul is definitely added to the list to take my wife - not sure my kids would enjoy the food.
I think you would find something for the kids.

Also - haven't been to Aria for years - is that still good?
