Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I bought 5 x 6 bottles of the Yalumba "Signature" for myself and 4 mates. Three of us were disappointed after having a bottle each. When I rang GWD to organise return of 15 bottles (for 3 of us), I indicated that before I purchased them I actually rang them and when I asked if it was the Signature he more or less said yes it was. So during my call to organise the return, the guy said something along the lines of "we believed that's what it was". I felt that maybe he was inferring that their "belief" was in fact wrong. Anyway, the return process was handled and organised very well by GWD.

For them to accept wine returns so easily on such a small scale operation suggests that their margin on this must be quite high

Any good recommendations at the moment?
Saw a few usual suspect (sorry I didn't keep the link), such as:
Shottesbrooke punch Cabernet 2012 for $10, down from $42
Known pleasures shiraz 2018, $20
Hares chase cellar reserve gsm barossa valley 2018 is $15 down from 39.99
Alkoomi Blackbutt Cabernet Merlot Frank 2010, $29.90 down from $60.

Alkoomi is sort of new - I haven't seen it before with DM. Similar pricing to VM before but different vintage.

I ended up picking up the Known Pleasures + JB Benbourie mentioned a few pages back with the cashback deal
Reviews look interesting and thought it was worth a try at that price

Very good price for the punch but be very sure about that it is not the entry level cabernet

Unfortunately the 15% cashback has ended which would have been a better deal than free delivery (depending on how much you spend)
Everything decent sold out weeks ago, the other day had a few bottles left. Mine was shipped via Sydney, tho JB 2014 was in stock locally

I'm annoyed I was charged shipping when I spent over $200, poor form for such a huge company shipping products to their stories everyday I assume. They should have free pick up from a local store etc

I beg to differ, Eileen Hardy shiraz was available at sub $50 just couple of days ago

I suppose it depends on your definition of "decent"
It's been available at BWS stores for months, and could of been purchased under $50 with Cashbacks & Codes available at the time.

Just a couple days ago, means it's not available now which what was asked. It's been on clearance it seems at quite a few retailers so mustn't be that in-demand/popular.

It seems it's on clearance at every retailer, so I guess not many wine lovers are too interested
What that has got to do with this wine being decent or not? In Sydney's BWS it only lasted a day on sale

Any links to "every retailer" that has it on sale?

It's $7 which wouldn't cover their cost base.. and a lot of these under wrap products are shipped direct from supplier.
The other approach is to markup the product cost by 4-5% and offer you "free shipping" for a $200 spend

Plenty of stores I buy from offer free shipping over $150-200 and aren't worth hundreds of millions.

I know the standard is generally $300 minimum.

ASOS ships free for over $70? I had an 8KG package from the UK, so I doubt 4kgs from Sydney is going to kill Dan Murphys when spend is $200+

It was sitting at $59 for yonks, and still available at a few stores.
And that is a measure that meant to indicate if the wine being decent or not?

It was not sitting at $59 for yonks. I remember watching the price.

Any actual examples of the stores or links where it is still available?
Might be of use to some other people.

Getting a bit off topic here but margin on clothing retail is far far higher than grocery & alcohol
This is priced into the product so at the end of the day you are still paying for shipping
